Day By Day Itinerary


Welcome to Queenstown. On arrival at Queenstown airport please make your way to the rental car desk to collect your vehicle. Make your way to the centre of town where you will be fitted with your ski gear and given your ski passes. Then make your way to your accommodation where you will be staying for the next 5 nights.

Your 3 day lift pass allows you to ski at the prestigious Coronet Peak or Remarkables Ski Resorts. You decide what mountain you wish to master first.

Today you may wish to cut through the snow on a different mountain, alternatively you can go back to where you skied yesterday, with the assurance of knowing the trails. The option is yours.

What is a Ski Tour?
We have a full range of ski packages to suit every level, from beginner packages to great short breaks. These ski packages are put together to suit your requirements, giving you an opportunity to book a tour on ability with inclusions to suit your expertise.  We have considered a number of options, including lessons, equipment hire, clothing, return transfers, lift passes and lessons. We can also design a tailor-made package for you, to suit your exact requirements and ability.

What does my ski tour include?

Accommodation, rental car or mountain transfers are included in all packages.

Please read each tour carefully as the inclusions differ according to ability. Should you have any questions please contact us directly.

Where and how do a collect my gear and lift passes?

Comprehensive information will be included in your documents. We recommend getting fitted for your gear and photographed for your lift pass the day prior to your first day on the mountain – the hours vary but the office is open until at least 7.00pm.

Do I keep my gear the entire stay?

Your ski gear does not need to be returned daily, accommodations have ski storage areas. Ski gear does need to be returned to the hire office prior to departing.

What if I decide not to ski?

If you choose not to go up the mountain, there will be no refund for unused vouchers. If the mountain is closed due to weather please contact us and alternative arrangements will be made.

What are the ski field roads like to drive on?

Ski field access roads are alpine roads so you must carry snow chains and know how to fit them. Cardrona and Treble Cone fields are gravel roads. Coronet Peak and The Remarkables roads are sealed. All can be safely driven in your rental car as long as you have the appropriate snow cover.


What are winter driving conditions like?

Driving in winter in New Zealand is for the most part no different to any other time. Care does need to be taken as roads can be affected by snow and ice at times. Allow more time if there is potential for ice, this is more prevalent at night or early morning and shaded areas. The icy road areas are generally signposted but not always. Some of the roads in the south can be affected by snow. Road conditions are signposted, and roads will close if there is concern. These main highways usually re open within a couple of hours once they have been cleared. To hire a rental car during winter it is compulsory to hire snow chains for the following routes, including Crown Range road, between Queenstown and Wanaka, and the Milford Sound road. Snow chains are available to hire when you collect your rental car. Best advice is drive to the conditions.

When is the ski season?

This varies for each mountain, and is weather dependant. Generally between mid June to late September or early October.  Below is an indicative schedule – but no guarantees.

The Remarkables, Queenstown – mid June to late September
Coronet Peak, Queenstown – mid June to beginning October

Are there transfers available to the ski field?

All the ski fields have regular shuttle transfers that run between town and the mountain Methven, Queenstown and Wanaka, there is also a service to Mt Hutt from Christchurch.

What clothing should I whilst skiing or snowboarding?
We suggest you wear jacket and pants specific for snowboarding or skiing. These can be hired from rental stores and a number of our packages include all gear including clothing.  Due to alpine weather conditions, the best option is layering your clothing, allowing flexibility due to temperature fluctuations. Certainly bring a thermal under layer, either poly propylene or merino, to wear under your waterproof ski gear.  A helmet is ideal if you are new to skiing or boarding. Gloves and socks are not included in your clothing hire. Bring waterproof gloves or mittens, and some long warm socks (everyday gloves and socks will not be warm enough), cold hands and feet will interfere with your enjoyment on the mountain.  Please bring sunblock as well as sunglasses or goggles. The reflecting sun off the snow is stronger than normal.

Is there food available up the mountain?

All the ski fields have cafes where you can buy lunch, coffee, snacks and drinks

When should I plan on skiing in New Zealand?

Due to seasons being variable from one year to the next, set dates are out of our control. The best option is for the middle of the season rather than either end. School holidays, both New Zealand and Australia, are the busiest time of year, so plan for those also. Please note New Zealand ski fields are above the tree line, so there are no trails through the trees.

I have never skied or snowboarded before, where should I ski or board?

Beginner skiers and snowboarders are looked after at New Zealand ski fields and we have a range of packages that will take you from a beginner to professional. We pride ourselves on designing a winter holiday that includes everything you need be it beginner or advanced.

What services are provided on the ski fields?

All fields we recommend and book have the following:

Cafes for the essentials like, food, coffee and other beverages
Shops to buy ski accessories - goggles, hats, in case you left yours behind
Ski and Snowboard lessons - ski school
Equipment rental Ski and snowboard
Childcare facilities

What dates do your tours depart?
Tours depart on a daily basis, allowing you maximum flexibility.  All tours are subject to availability at time of booking and seasonality.

What is included in the tour cost?
All tours include coach travel/car hire, transfers, accommodation and sightseeing activities where specified along with various ski requirements as listed.  A detailed travel wallet with your travel vouchers and comprehensive itinerary will be sent to you prior to your departure or delivered to your accommodation for you to collect on check in.

What is not included in the tour cost?
Expenses of a personal nature such as meals (except where stated in the itinerary), beverages, travel insurance, laundry and optional sightseeing (except where stated in the itinerary) are not included in the tour cost.

What is required to hire a vehicle within New Zealand?
A valid driver’s licence in English is required to hire a rental vehicle within New Zealand.  Please note drivers must be over 21 years to hire a vehicle. If you are aged between 21 – 25 years, a young driver surcharge is applicable. We recommend all clients have a credit card for car rental, the card number is then held for a bond. All vehicles are automatic transmission, we do not offer manual transmissions. Winter conditional will require you to hire snow chains. 

I am travelling alone – can I pay the triple or twin share rate and be linked with other travellers?
No, unfortunately. You must pay the single room – per person cost.

I am travelling with children, what price will I pay?
Please contact us for information on child fares, as these vary based on the specific product you require. Some sightseeing activities are unsuitable for children.

Are any meals included in the tour cost?
Our Superior and Premium accommodation option includes breakfast. No other meals are included in the tour cost except where stated in the itinerary.

Is Halal and other speciality food available in New Zealand? 
Along with a small population of Muslims, New Zealand has an increasing number of Muslim visitors. Halal food and restaurants are now found in many areas of the country, let us now if you require this and we will compile a list for you. We can also offer advice in regards to Vegan and other special requirements.

Can I add additional nights to a tour?
Yes you can. All tours are very flexible. Please ask one of our Travel Consultants for extra nightly rates.

What is the difference between the three tour types Quality, Superior and Premium Tours?
Standard:  Motor Lodge, apartment style accommodation, self-contained accommodation, ensuite bathrooms. Your rental car is a small compact car.

Superior: 4 star hotel accommodation, includes breakfast. Your rental car is a mid-size car.

Premium: 5 star hotel accommodation, including breakfast. Your rental car is an SUV.

Note all accommodation is reviewed regularly by staff, we have high standards and good relationships with all our providers.

What if I cannot find exactly what I am looking for on the website?

How much luggage can I take on my tour?
Each passenger may take 2 pieces of luggage (max 25kg each). For safety reasons, each passenger is limited to one carry on item (max 5kg). We also advise you check the maximum baggage allowance with your chosen airline.

How do I make a payment for a tour?
For bookings made more than 30 days prior to travel, Pacific Travel require a deposit of NZ$50 per person. This deposit is non-refundable. Balance of payment is due 30 days prior to travel. For bookings made 30 days or less prior to travel, full payment is required at the time of booking. Visa & MasterCard are accepted forms of payment. A 2.5% Credit Card Fee applies to all payments by credit card. You may pay via direct bank transfer to avoid the credit card fee. Bank details will be on your booking advice. All prices advertised are in New Zealand dollars and are GST inclusive.

What is your cancellation policy?
If after your booking has been confirmed you wish to cancel, the following cancellation fees will apply:
Cancellations 30 or more days prior to travel: Your deposit.
Cancellations 0 – 29 days prior to travel: no refund.
Booking amendments made by you. An amendment fee may be charged, to cover our administration and communication costs. We may also need to pass on any amendment/cancellation fees imposed by our suppliers.

Conditions of travel
Pacific Travel reserves the right to alter fares, amend itineraries, book alternative accommodation or to cancel tours. Pacific Travel Ltd shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage to luggage or personal effects and/or damage resulting in death or personal injury, which may arise whilst travelling with Pacific Travel Ltd or its nominated suppliers. All transportation, both land and sea, is subject to the terms and conditions of the company providing the transport, some of which limit or exclude liability. These are available from the carriers concerned on request.

Will I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance. Factors may arise that require you to cancel or amend your holiday, so it is essential you are covered for any costs that may be incurred. We recommend purchasing your travel insurance locally at the same time as you book your tour and flights. Pacific Travel Ltd does not sell travel insurance.

Do I need to tip in New Zealand?
If you wish to reward someone for a job well done it is always much appreciated.

Do I need a visa to visit New Zealand?
Most visitors to New Zealand do not require a visa to enter for the purpose of a holiday or vacation under the visa waiver program. If you do need a visa to visit New Zealand then you should contact the New Zealand consulate in your home country well before your departure date. We recommend you also check with your local travel agent or airline for any visa requirements to New Zealand particularly if you are passing through Australia. What currency is used in New Zealand?
