Review for 7 Day Glaciers, Lakes and Night Sky Tour
Hi Sophie

Everything went perfectly well. I really enjoyed these few day in NZ and I have plenty of pictures and memories about those amazing landscapes. It was too short actually but I will come back for sure, probably doing North island next time.

Thank you for your time, everything was really well organized and planned.

Walter Peak Gourmet BBQ Dinner

Review for Walter Peak Gourmet BBQ Dinner
We went on the dinner cruise across on the Earnslaw. Great trip across with fantastic scenery.

Our gourmet dinner had great range of seafoods, BBQ meats and selection of salads and vegetables. Food was great only but! was the vegetables werent the warmest, but in saying that the dessert was decadent to say the least.

After dinner was a shearing show with the dogs doing their bit. A great display for the tourists.

A lovely way to spend the morning & early afternoon.

We left Queenstown around 10am and enjoyed a 45 minute cruise across the lake. The farm tour was lovely and I enjoyed the shearing of the sheep show.

The BBQ lunch is outstanding – ample food for a very large group, and I was surprised the food lines weren’t too long at all. Well worth it! Got back around 1:30pm – really well run by real Journeys.

Review for 7 Day Mountains and Glaciers Tour
Hi Sophie

Apologies for not getting back sooner, I went straight back to work after our holiday.

In a nutshell, it was fabulous! It is so, so beautiful I couldn’t get enough of the stunning scenery. I absolutely fell in love with Queenstown and seriously think I’d like to retire there one day, it ticks all the boxes for me.

The whole trip went without a single glitch. All of our documents and itinerary were perfectly in order and very easily managed with the vouchers. All transfers, buses etc were exactly where they were supposed to be and at the times stated. I was so impressed by the simplicity of it, I wasn’t confused by any of the arrangements and felt very confident navigating it all.

Your advice was spot on too Sophie, especially re doing the helicopter in Franz Joseph first, then Fox, then Lake Matheson. The weather was perfect for us that day. The heli was my favourite tour of the holiday, closely followed by the Glowworm tour. I ended up skiing at Coronet Peak on our free day in Queenstown but Wanaka is somewhere I need to go back to, it was beautiful. The weather was also very kind to us on Milford Sound, no rain!

I can’t thank you enough Sophie, all went without hitch and we truly had a stress free, beautiful holiday.
Thank you for all of your advice, recommendations and planning.

We did lots of adventurous things during our 3 weeks in New Zealand, and this zip-line experience was one of the best.

We chose the 4-line zip, not certain if it was really appropriate for two “kids” in their mid-60s. My only complaint is that I wish we’d opted for the whole 6-line package.

Harry and Gordon were lots of fun and very safety conscious and the zips were sheer fun! So if you don’t have enough nerve to bungee jump (we didn’t!) this is a fun alternative.

Review for Tasman Glacier Explorer Tour
I had one night at Mount Cook and am so glad I added this tour on the morning of my departure.

It was the first day of the season and we had beautiful weather. Our guide was friendly and helpful. I think most anyone could enjoy this adventure though be prepared to walk about 15 minutes down to the lake and have extra layers. As warm as the day was, it was cold on the water and you do get splashed some (which I think adds to the experience).

Getting to see the icebergs, touch them and even hold parts of the ice was an added benefit to an already awesome experience. The icebergs are truly beautiful and there are so many features and views you can’t see from standing on the edge of the lake. The pictures I captured on this exploration were some of my favorite of a two week trip.

I recommend for all ages and anyone wanting to have a unique experience.

Boutique Wine Tour

Review for Boutique Wine Tour
We did the boutique half day wine tour in the middle of Winter which takes you around 4 local wineries.

We stopped at Mt Rosa for a tasting, the host their was very friendly and knowledgeable and we got to try a large selection of their wines from a variety of years to compare variations. This was definitely my favorite stop.

We then stopped at Carrick for a platter lunch and here we had a glass of wine of our choice to accompany our meal. The food was locally sourced and all very fresh.

Our third stop was at Domain Road, a smaller winery with a tasting room which had beautiful views across the vines.

Finally we stopped at Gibbston Valley, this is not normally a stop on the boutique tour but was requested by one of the other guests and was put on the schedule by the company for them. The host here was very knowledgeable and engaging and the cave was fun to taste the wine in. Overall i preferred the smaller vineyards to Gibbston but i liked that if any of us had a preference this was easily catered for by the team.

Our driver/guide Martin was lovely and was able to give information about all the wines we were tasting at the various stops and info about the local area.

It was a great day and a great way to see some of the smaller vineyards which we would not have normally gone to. The bus size was also good as it meant it was a more personalised experience at each of the stops and you wernt having to compete with a full coach load of tourists!

First the useful things- toll free number is available to call from the USA, emails are responded quickly, staff is excellent. All payments are done beforehand, a set of vouchers gets delivered to your hotel- all organized in the right order. Then the tour goes like clockwork. Detailed summary of each day is provided to you.Their website is quite detailed and you can mix and match all tours time permitting.

Sent them a brief email, followed by a quick call and Heather and Sophie got on my case. Sophie asked what I wanted to do and then came back with a detailed plan. All hotels with room details and all the excursion list was emailed to me. Sophie got all hotel bookings done per my requirements. All hotels were centrally located with excellent breakfast and good restaurants.

Our taxi or shuttle drivers showed up on time, every detail was perfect. We started from Queenstown, toured Milford Sound, went to Franz Josef, did the TranzAlpine train, went to Auckland. You have to do nothing, just book your flights and Sophie and the team will do their magic.

One part of our trip was cancelled due to weather and we got a quick refund. I made changes and cancelled one tour because FlexiTours offered a Rotorua, Waitomo, Hobbiton 1 day tour- it was handled efficiently by Sophie. It was great working with Sophie and Heather- thank you!

Review for 5 Day Dunedin, Queenstown and Milford Tour
I am now back in the UK and am enjoying telling all my friends and family about my experiences. I thought the whole trip was absolutely excellent. The quality of the people involved and the accommodation and day trips were brilliant. The quality of the hotels in Dunedin and Queenstown was outstanding. Also the Intercity/Great Sights coaches and tours were brilliant. The drivers were excellent – very informative and timely and made what were pretty long journeys fly by with their passion for their country and good humour.

I think a highlight has to be the trip to Milford Sound where I was lucky enough to see dolphins and seals and the most stunning views. Absolutely every person that I had contact with as part of the trip from the coach drivers to the hotel staff and the taxi drivers were so friendly and helpful and as a single traveller I felt very reassured and comfortable. They are a great representative on behalf of your country and for New Zealand too.

I would just like to say a special thank you to Graham the Intercity coach driver who took me from Christchurch to Dunedin on the day the snow fell in Christchurch. I think many other drivers would have given up and turned back in such bad weather conditions but he was determined to get us to our destination and was an absolute star because it would have knocked on to the whole trip if we hadn’t got out of Christchurch when we did. So big thanks to him! And a big thank you to you and your company for organising such a great trip.

The information and itinerary provided were excellent and knew what and where I was meant to be at every step of the way. Everything ran as it should and on time and everywhere I went there seemed to be someone waiting for me or expecting me which was so reassuring. So THANK YOU!! If I ever come back to NZ (which I really hope I will!), I would definitely use you guys again and I will be recommending you to anyone who goes to NZ.

THANKS AGAIN.
Kind Regards,

Hi Folks,

I meant to get in touch sooner but we were still in New Zealand for a while after our tour so I sort of forgot. However, we were just looking back on out time on the South Island the other day and we thought we should thank you for the smooth running of the whole operation. The hotels were fantastic, all of them and the timing of buses, taxis, pick ups etc were first class. Like a well oiled machine, I couldn’t believe it.

On landing at Christchurch, the airline had lost our luggage and when your representative called round with the itinerary at our initial accommodation we still had not got it back. So we were wondering if this was to be one long catalogue of disasters. Fortunately, the bags came the next day (good job we stayed 2 days in Christchurch and didn’t go on the tour the following day), and from there things went swimmingly.

Thanks once again!

3 Day Main Divide and Glaciers Tour

Review for 3 Day Main Divide and Glaciers Tour
We participated in one of Scenic Pacific’s land tours in New Zealand. The tour was by train and bus from Christchurch to Queenstown for 3 days. Overall it was an excellent experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and all the drivers were very helpful and informative.

The company provided us an excellent detailed itinerary with all the instructions we needed. Everything happened exactly as the itinerary said it would with everything being on time and as described to us in advance. I thought it was way too expensive, but that appears to a be the case in this entire market.

The only criticism I have, and it is minor, is that their office staff is poor about reaching out at odd times of the day when a US travel agent is trying to set up a tour. Our agent had so much trouble that he finally told us (we were in Australia at the time) that we could call them directly and set it up. When we did, the staff was attentive and helpful and everything has handled efficiently. So, why couldn’t they do that over email with the travel agent? In this day and age with lots of international travelers, my expectation is that a tour agency would email or phone at 3:00 in the morning if they had to in order to make appropriate contacts.

If I had it to do all over again or if I am in New Zealand again, I would definitely use Scenic Pacific again. Their tours are well organized and are great experiences.

When we got back to our home country after a month, packed with so many new exciting experiences, I realised that the Doubtful Sound overnight cruise was the peak of our journey.

From the moment we got on the Real Journey’s bus to Manapouri, we felt the warm and welcoming service. All the stuff members we encountered with were so nice, happy and helpful.

The cruise was terrific. We experienced Fiordland in many ways (Milford Track and sounds, Te-Anau, Manapouri) and Doubtful sound was one of a kind. Silent, calm and beautiful. It so hard to get there, so you’ll be only you there, in the untouched wilderness.

Sleeping there was unique experience too. We had clear skies and we did some stargazing.

Review for Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise departing Manapouri
We booked the overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound with Real Journeys as a family of 8 – ages ranging from 83 to 5. It’s expensive so we braved 2 quad share rooms – Mr Despot and I shared with Mrs Despot’s parents. It was surprisingly comfortable and warm, bunk beds are not a problem for one night. There are 9 quad-share rooms and you are at water level on the ship. This was interesting rather than dark and dank. There is a water cooler on this level and also free ear plugs as the quad rooms only have a curtain. I used my own ear plugs and had a good sleep. I thought there might be a queue for the shared toilets and showers but there is so much to see that you hardly run into the other guests. The staff are very diligent in keeping the bathroom facilities clean and tidy.

If you look at other reviews, there are common themes – majestic scenery, expert commentary from on-board naturalist, water activities for the brave, attentive staff, plentiful food – these are all endorsed by us.

It is quite an effort to get to Doubtful Sound – we drove to Manapouri (plenty of parking, it is up on the hill behind Real Journeys), catamaran across Lake Manapouri (scenic and interesting), bus over Wilmott Pass (our driver, Alan, was so in love with the place, it made us excited as well), walk over temporary bridge, another bus, and THEN onto Fiordland Navigator.

All this effort is worth it when you get there. A very, very special part of the world.

Review for 3 Day Glacier Explorer Tour
Booked a tour through scenic pacific, as had organised four weeks of holiday in NZ with my dad and thought I’d have a break from organising and let someone else do it for the west coast glaciers.

Really glad I did as it was coming to the end of our holiday and it was so nice to be picked up at the accommodation at both places. It ran smoothly all the way through.

Lisa our agent, was helpful and so quick with responding to me in England, when I first enquired about booking a tour. Nothing was any problem to her and she was cheerful and full of humour all through the months of our correspondence. Our itinerary was waiting for us when we checked into accommodation in Queenstown, 4 days before our tour started. She was interested in our visit to NZ, and very enthusiastic about our tour with scenic pacific.

The coaches were clean and comfortable with informative drivers. The studio apartment in Franz Josef was gorgeous. A massive, comfortable bed and the most beautiful view from the window (bella vista apartments). It even had basic kitchen facilities. (Plug in hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge).

We had a guided walk to the base of the glacier, included in the price. Excellent 3.5 hours with a fabulous guide who was really interesting (zac). Then we had free time in the afternoon, so a bit of a break before next journey.

The coach to Greymouth was excellent. The driver knew great places for refreshment stops. Really chatty fella. Then the TranzAlpine train to Christchurch was amazing.

I would recommend this trip. You can organise it yourself but I didn’t think it was any cheaper (unless you have more basic accommodation or self drive) and it was so nice to have someone else organise everything. Especially a cheerful agent like Lisa.

Having read all the reviews I booked an overnight boat trip- three of us in a quad cabin. It was one of the last things we did in NZ, and it was a wonderful way to end our trip.

Well organised, pleasant staff, the best buffet dinner, kayaking, nature talks, sea swimming, waterfalls and rain, and rain and more rain! But this simply gave the fiord an ethereal beauty with swirling mists, rainbows and shafts of sunlight breaking through to create stunning spotlights and shadows.

It was achingly beautiful and we loved the thought that the pristine forests have largely never been explored, which made the experience all the more special. The staff work incredibly hard to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, cuisine and service. We did appreciate all their efforts and realised that as soon as we left, they only had a few hours before the next guests arrived.

For anyone considering this trip, we advise good waterproof trousers, jackets and shoes and a complete change of clothes for the evening as it is impossible to get everything dry. Highly recommended.

Drizzling conditions when we boarded the small coach in Glenorchy to head outbound to join the Jet boat, but the weather cleared & before long sunny patches.

Explanations (including stills illustrations) on filming locations on a brief stop had the ‘Lord of the Rings’ fans excited … you had to know some specific details of the films to really grasp.

A rainforest walk was interesting too, & then just a short hop to the river & jet boat. Quickly into the ‘jet’ bit, a donut turn (one of many) upped the adrenalin, & thereafter stupendous gorges & mountains, as we fanged along. Our pilot, Eliot, pointing out icefields, icecaps, & peaks as he swung precariousy by some rock outcrops that you swear were going to take a layer of fiberglass or paint off the boat.

Return down river equally fun. Weather held up nicely for us & we agreed doing the sequence coach out – jetboat back was probably better than vice versa.
All in all a SUPER EXPERIENCE.

We did the Hobbiton Movie Set tour from Rotorua. We joined the bus on Fenton Street from the Hobbiton shop.

It was a pleasant one hour drive to Hobbiton after which we met our tour guide, Mira. It was her last week working at Hobbiton and she gave us a lovely tour round, showing us all the points of interest and giving us some good stories. We were the third tour in the morning and I would think it is better to get there early as Hobbiton looked quite empty and authentic as there were not many tours already started.

We didn’t feel rushed but of course you are on a time scale as the next tour is waiting to start but at no time did I feel I missed anything. We ended with a drink at the Green Dragon and it was a really nice cider, you had choice of 2 beers, cider and a ginger beer.

Highly recommend this trip – the whole journey is what makes it an unforgettable experience, although the fjord is the clear highlight.

I love sunny weather and our trip to the fjord was our only rainy day of the holiday but that made it spectacular- literally scores of waterfalls pouring down cliffs and mountainsides.

We went out to Tasman Sea. Saw fur seals, dolphins and albatross. Went out in the small boat in the pouring rain sitting under a tarp – and still loved it. Braver souls than me went kayaking and swimming.

The guide’s commentary was good – not too much but very knowledgable with plenty dry wit. His slide show after dinner is well worth attending. Food is very good and plentiful. Wine was expensive, but very good.

Sleeping berth for 4 is small but well planned to make good use of limited space. Very clean. Bit too warm for me. Toilet and shower facilities are good – kept clean and tidy and higher than usual standard for a boat.

Staff across the boat were great – efficient, professional with good sense of humour. Happy to answer all questions. Always around to help but not in your face.
Loved it.

Doubtful Sound Cruise

Review for Doubtful Sound Cruise
We did a full day trip on the Doubtful Sound last November and were thoroughly impressed by the landscape. We started with a boat tour over lake Manapouri, after which we took a bus over to the Doubtful Sound. There we started on a boat over the sound and went into multiple side sounds. The landscape was breathtaking. There were almost no other boats on the lake which made it even more special.

I will remember the silent moment halfway for a very long time to come!

Kia Ora Tess, We are back in Auckland, ready to head to Bangkok tomorrow.

We have been In NZ three weeks and have had a wonderful time. We had been doing things on our own in Auckland, Dunedin, Queenstown, and Wellington, which worked out fine. So your part of our trip was the only “scripted” itinerary, and we were happy we did it. It was convenient not to worry about connections and pick ups (especially in the rain — we had just a little) and we would not have seen so many things in Rotorua without your schedule. All the drivers, especially Bryan and Barry with Great Sights were terrific. The hotels were also great, with a wonderful view of Lake Taupo and the Hotel Ibis was a perfect location.

We really enjoyed the Mitai Hangi. So, well done, and thank you. New Zealand is a beautiful country with wonderful people. Happy trails to you.

Hobbiton Movie Set Tour

Review for Hobbiton Movie Set Tour
This was not part of our initial itinerary but when we had a free afternoon while in Rotorua we decided to splurge and go for this tour.

We went on the last tour which leaves around 1 pm from downtown Rotorua, you get on a comfy bus that takes you to a town called Matamata and you arrive at the movie set about an hr later. You really do feel like you have arrived in Middle Earth as you enter the sprawling movie set with 44 hobbit houses and showcases New Zealand’s natural beauty at its best.

I didn’t give it 5 stars only because there was a tour ahead of us and behind us ….that kind of forces you to stop and go as your tour guide directs you rather than having the leisure to explore this wonderland at your own pace.

I’m not a die hard Lord of the Rings fan and my teenage daughter has never seen the movie but we were both mesmerized with the landscape and all the details of this movie set. This tour was totally worth the splurge and you are back in Rotorua around 5 pm.

Thanks for all of your help in New Zealand and special thanks for a delicious dinner with you and family.

We consider the Kirra Tour a success. It was a first for us and we had to adjust somewhat to the schedule, but once we got into the routine, it worked well.

Ross is an excellent driver and his knowledge of the Zealand countryside is outstanding. He handled things very well. There were two hotels that did not measure up, and Ross would agree, i.e. Heritage Gateway, Omarama and Scenic Hotel, Franz Josef. It’s possible that Kirra was stuck with these because of the busy season, but they should consider other choices if possible. They were OK, but not up to par.

We would suggest that Kirra send out a letter/package to customers before they leave home in which they would explain the details of first night arrival, what to expect the first morning of the trip and more details about optional tours available during the week. Because we had never taken a bus tour, we were a little confused the first night and morning.

All in all, we are very pleased. We saw everything we had planned on seeing, the food was satisfactory (not as good as yours), most of the hotels were fine (except you folks don’t like AC as much as we do) and the folks on the tour were pleasant and nice.

Thank you for making it work and taking care of the turtle, who arrived home safely. We look forward to your visit next year and we will recommend you to any of our friends wanting to visit New Zealand.

Thank you for asking how our trip to the North Island went. We’re happy to say that all the arrangements you made for us went perfectly smoothly and we have been very impressed by Scenic Pacific’s professionalism. Even the weather turned good for us!

We feel that we couldn’t have had a better way of taking in all that New Zealand has to offer within the time available. Also we much appreciated the Great Sights service. The coaches were comfortable and the drivers were very informative in their running commentaries.

We will certainly recommend you to others who visit New Zealand if and when we have the opportunity. Thank you also for your personal attention and clarifications whenever we have made enquiries.

Well…we have finally and officially finished our 10 day Middle Earth Odyssey as of yesterday and I am writing to tell you that we have enjoyed every minute of the adventure.

On behalf of Indi and myself, I would like extend our thanks and gratitude for your effort in putting this itinerary together. Everything worked out well from transportation to hotels to places of interest, though in hindsight we would have loved to spend less time in some places and more in others. Never mind you live and learn.

We have 3 more left days in Christchurch and we are thinking of spending a day with the dolphins in Akaroa. Once again, many thanks for all your time and effort in making sure our trip went well. I certainly will have no hesitation recommending Scenic Pacific to the wider audience.

“I just want to say how much we enjoyed our recent coach tour of New Zealand’s South Island.  The coach drivers were very well informed, especially Tom Gilles, the gentleman we had on our first day on the way to Queenstown.  We loved our cruise around Milford Sound.  Our trip to Franz Josef Glacier was spectacular and our accommodation there was particularly good.

The journey on the Trans-Alpine express was the real highlight of the journey.  I can also recommend Quest apartment accommodation in Christchurch.

5 Day Dunedin, Queenstown and Milford Tour

Review for 5 Day Dunedin, Queenstown and Milford Tour
Hi Tess

Thank you so much for working with me and setting up our tour. We had an amazing time!! Visiting New Zealand was a dream of a lifetime. Absolutely breathtaking!

Our tour package was great! Everything went very smoothly, as we didn’t encounter any conflicts at all. Our travel documents were waiting for us upon check in. Thank you for including brochures about the cities/tours we were to visit. They were very helpful.

The buses by great sights were very nice! Loved travelling on them and wished our whole tour was with them. Main perk of that was the ability to charge my phone. The intercity buses didn’t have this option available.

As far as the tour itself, it was amazing. We wished we had a little more time to explore the island or a couple of the stops longer. I don’t think this is anything you can fix, as the buses have a schedule to keep..but that is one thing that would have been nice. Just more time along the way.

The additional bookings that I had you add went smoothly as well. We were picked up at the right time and all went very well! The wildlife tour was spectacular! Highly recommend to others as a must do in Dunedin.

All the hotels you booked for us were very nice! We even were upgraded a couple of nights unexpectedly. The hotel in Queenstown was our favorite! We were so close to everything and the hotel was superb!

All in all, the tour was amazing and we loved how everything was all planned out ahead of time and paid for in full.

I would highly recommend booking with you at Scenic Pacific to others who plan to visit New Zealand.
Thank you!! Hopefully someday we will return.

The whole experience was so well organised and focused on us all having the very best of experiences. We thought the price to be somewhat expensive for our budget but we have absolutely no regrets. We certainly had our money’s worth.

The detour to see the dolphins, together with the bow of the cruiser nudging the waterfall on our return journey turned an interesting trip into a spectacular one.

Although the company can claim no credit for the marvelous scenery, they can take every credit for the positive attitude of all of the staff, their enthusiasm for sharing this experience with us, and enabling us to get the best out of this experience. The organisation was exceptional

We have passed on our experiences to many other travellers who we have met since.

Milford Mariner Overnight Cruise departing Milford Sound

Review for Milford Mariner Overnight Cruise departing Milford Sound
Without a doubt the Milford Mariner overnight cruise is one of the best experiences I have ever done.

We boarded at 4pm and set sail shortly after. We anchored in a cove and you have the option to either go kayaking or out on a small tender boat. We took the option of the latter.

The tender boat was amazing. We had the awesome Johnny as our guide. A zoologist from the UK, whose every fibre of him loved Milford Sound. We had an awesome time discovering the various coves and seeking out the wildlife – penguins and seals.

We returned to the Mariner for an amazing evening meal. And then there’s a talk about the local flora and fauna. We took an early night as we had an early start. Breakfast was at 7am. And then we set off hunting more marine life. It was this part of the trip which totally blew us away. The early morning light and the obvious love and delight of the crew of their job and environment was just superb.

Milford Sound is simply magical. It’s utterly stunning and at times breathtaking. Accommodation was great – we had a double room with an suite. Small but very comfortable. The crew are exceptional. Food was superb. I wouldn’t have a single hesitation in recommending this trip to anyone!

Hi Heather

I really appreciate all your help with the recent tour (amended 2 Day Glacier Tour). Since we needed to put together an itinerary at the last minute, I wouldn’t have been able to work out the details alone, especially long distance.

My husband and father received all the documents and details of the trip at their hotel that very night we booked, and it was very kind of you to hand deliver them. Having all the arrangements handled helped put them at ease so they could enjoy the rest of the trip. The travel day was long and a bit tiring, but the train was a nice change from bus travel and the glacier was lovely. Everything went smoothly and they arrived back in Christchurch on time and ready to depart the next morning.

I feel lucky to have found you and again, you have my thanks. If we visit New Zealand again I will give you a call – this time farther in advance!

Sorry not to reply before but things have been quite busy since we got back.

We had a great time on the trip and all transport and liaison arrangements went perfectly. We were made very welcome at the Alexis Motor Lodge but didn’t have time to use the spa pool!

Taxis and InterCity was all efficient and vouchers for Gondola and Franz Josef worked well. We had a great time in Dunedin with the 4 integrated tours, the day to Milford Sound was quite awesome.

We managed the Franz Josef guided walk with some help, it was a bit tough walking up a boulder strewn river bed but glad we did. Another worthwhile visit at FJ was the West Coast wildlife centre where we saw Rowi Kiwi, Tuatara and a good explanation about glaciers etc. Very pleasant staff and good displays.

So thanks Sophie for arranging the Glacier and Wildlife trip, all went smoothly and we had lovely weather (giving you credit for that, too!).

The Tribal Footprints Tour

Review for The Tribal Footprints Tour
I had a wonderful afternoon tour with Brian. I made the decision to travel to Rotorua on very short notice and Trent was able to confirm my tour without any trouble right away.

I got picked up from the lakefront in the afternoon and spent the next few hours with Brian exploring the local (and his own) Maori history. First we went out to the Buried Village, stopping at the Blue (Tikitapu) and Green Lakes on our way and learning about their Maori names and the story behind it. We took a walk through the Buried Village and Brian explained the history of his and other local tribes, the impact the eruption of Mount Tarawera had on the local settlers and so many more things.

Afterwards we went over to Whakarewarewa and walked through the settlement, with Brian explaining me key features of Maori settlement, the significance and meaning of a Wharenui (meeting house in a Marae) amongst so many other things.

I learnt so much this afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this tour, it felt like discovering the world with a knowledgeable friend and it was great to meet some of the locals that live in the Whakarewarewa valley.

I would go on this tour again to learn more about the cultural history and to meet local people that live with the unique geothermal features that this country offers.

This was our first tour outside of our familiar grounds (U.S. and Canada). We were looking for a group tour and saw great review of Scenic Pacific Travel and decided to give a try.

Lisa was our main tour planner; she was fun to talk to and worked hard to accommodate our last minute change by adding one more stop at doubtful sound to our 6 day tour. The additional route to doubtful sound was suggested by Sophie during our weekend phone call to the office.

The whole tour was seamless from the time we were picked up from our hotel in Christchurch. Scenery along the way was breath taking and accommodations were great and restaurants are within walking distance to our motel/hotels.

Our tour was based on tourist class package with exception of Queenstown where we stayed in the Copthorne Hotel and Resort Lakefront, which was an upgrade. At Copthorne we asked for a room with view and hotel gave us a room where we can see snow covered mountains. The nearby Queenstown Garden is also a must see scenic spot.

Thank you Lisa and Sophie for planning our wonderful tour of south island and will recommend to our friends.

From our first inquiry to booking and collection of our travel pack, we were very pleased with the help from the staff at Scenic Pacific.

The tour was really good, and although the bus journeys were long to see the places we wanted to get to, they were well worth it and the drivers (especially Tom, Marcus & Peter) were really friendly and gave interesting information during the trips. There were plenty of refreshment stops and we also stopped at some lovely scenic points.

We were so lucky with the weather we had and so saw some of New Zealand’s most beautiful scenery at its best. The hotel in Queenstown was in a great location and the motel in Franz Josef was great too. We would really recommend using the bus to get to Milford Sound and then if possible booking the flight back to Queenstown as flying over the mountains was amazing.

Our highlight though was the heli-hike up onto the Franz Josef glacier, so luck the weather held for us to do this on the day.

We would happily recommend Scenic Pacific to anyone who wanted to see the main areas of the South Island , we were very pleased with what we experienced.

I did the one day Routeburn Track with Guided Walks at the end of October.

Stefan was our guide. On the drive from Queenstown through Glenorchy to the start of the hike he pointed out historical sites, explained about Maori legends and the geography of the area.

The day was a perfect sunny spring day and had plenty of photo opportunities. I just carried a day pack with my water, snacks and lunch all provided by Guided Walks. We hiked about 16kms round trip and stopped along the way to listen to the birds or check out a tree or plant. Again our guide was very knowledgeable about the plants, birds, animals and terrain we were walking through. Took the time to walk with and talk with each member of the walk.

We were both very impressed with the Scenic Pacific tour we booked with you. Everything worked as clockwork, it was very well organised. We had some brilliant bus drivers, Tom, Marcus & Peter especially.

The tours were excellent with plenty of stops for refreshments and scenic stops. The 3 drivers mentioned gave really interesting information on the journeys which was appreciated. The hotel in Queenstown was lovely and the Motel in Franz Josef was too.

I know that we were very lucky too with the weather as I gather before we started out this had not been too good for a while. We saw Mount Cook, Milford Sound and Queenstown in beautiful weather.

Also, we were so lucky that the Heli hike in Franz Josef went ahead and we had sun on the glacier too. We were one of only 3 groups that were able to go on the day as the weather changed and went on the only day for a week they had actually taken tours up there.

Hi Janet

Thank you very much for organizing our trip, we had a lovely time and everything went very smoothly.

The highlight of the trip for us was staying at the Edgewater Resort hotel, at Wanaka, it is very peaceful and beautiful there and very relaxing.

We loved the ride to Milford Sound, with such spectacular scenery, also the cruise was lovely and they gave us a wonderful lunch. The Hermitage Hotel at Mount Cook is a lovely hotel, but unfortunately it rained and we were unable to see the Star Gazing outside, however we saw information on the inside planetarium which was very interesting. At Franz Josef it was too cloudy to fly on the Grand Traverse flight, so please could you refund the money. I will have to visit again to try to do this flight !!

We enjoyed staying at the Ibis Hotel in Christchurch as it is so central and we could walk to see the Botanical Gardens and catch the Double Decker bus. The driver gave a really interesting commentary and it was well worth doing. We were very impressed by how we were picked up on time for each part of our itinerary and your instructions were very clear and good.

So thank you very much once again for a great holiday.

Thank you to Sophie for planning the most amazing tour of New Zealand’s South Island! I cannot recommend Scenic Pacific Travel enough. We typically plan our own vacations, but I am really glad we went through Scenic Pacific because we were able to pack in much more than we would have if we had planned ourselves over the course of 7 days. I found the three biggest benefits of using Scenic Pacific Travel to be:

1. Convenience – everything was incredibly seamless. We picked up our travel wallets at our first accommodation and knew exactly where we needed to be for all tours/bus rides. I saved a lot of time not having to figure out exactly what bus stops we would need to be dropped off at for our accommodations in each town.

2. Central Location – all of our accommodations were in great locations with easy options to walk to for grocery stores and restaurants/cafes.

3. Customer service!!! I cannot say enough about how incredibly helpful Sophie was through our planning process. She very quickly helped us tailor our itinerary to be exactly what we wanted and answered all of our questions so promptly. She also sent me personal pictures of herself bungy jumping which convinced me to try it! I honestly don’t know if I would have done it without her encouragement.

We had such an amazing trip and would recommend Scenic Pacific to anyone considering it!

Hi Sophie, Your email is timely – we just arrived back at home in the US.

Overall, our trip was AMAZING!! We had SO much fun. Unfortunately the Heli Hike was cancelled due to weather 🙁 but we still hiked to the bottom of the glacier on our own and had a fun day in Franz Josef.

Bungy jumping was TERRIFYING!!!! I’m glad I did it, but I think it will be my first and last jump 🙂 I still don’t know how they convinced me to jump off on the count of 3!! I also couldn’t get my feet unhooked so I still got pulled up feet first.

The Milford Sound tour was definitely as a highlight – and we were nervous because the day before we were supposed to go we heard the road was closed, but luckily it all worked out for us.

The penguin tour was also really fun! All of our accommodations were very conveniently located and everything ran smoothly from start to finish – thank you so much for your help!

The only thing we didn’t love was the bus ride back from Dunedin to Christchurch on our last day – I think because we were also flying to Auckland that day it just felt like a lot of being in transit and we didn’t feel like the bus ride on that route was anything we hadn’t seen, so I think we would skip that in the future but we wouldn’t have known that unless we tried it. I don’t think we would have been able to pack as much into our trip without your help!

Review for 3 Day Hobbiton, Glowworms and Geysers Tour
I am now back home, after a fantastic trip to your beautiful country!

I had a wonderful time on my little three day trip through Hobbiton, Waitomo, and Rotorua! It all worked out great, and whenever I needed the weather to be nice for some outdoor trips, it was nice. When it wasn’t nice (lots of rain and wind), I went to the Rotorua hot pools!

Many thanks again for your help with all the arrangements – they all worked out perfectly.

I wanted to thank you for all that you did when Jeannie & I had our flight to New Zealand cancelled at the last minute. You forwarded a new copy of our itinerary and vouchers and also issued a credit without being asked for things that Jeannie & I missed out on. This is outstanding service!.

In the course of our travels, we learned that all of the coachlines, hotels and other attractions included in our package always had our names and were expecting us. It was comforting to know that we wouldn’t be stranded at any of our stops. We also learned that you and Scenic Pacific / Pacific Travel have a good reputation with those you do business with.

We had the best time on the portion of our trip arranged by you and Scenic Pacific Travel!

The TranzAlpine Train was unforgettable and the favorite event of our two-week vacation in Australia and New Zealand! With your help, we were able to tour the South Island from Christchurch to Franz Josef to Queenstown, experiencing beautiful Milford Sound and Mt Cook, a glacier walk, and some of the most amazing landscape in the world.

Since we were traveling with our elderly mom, the bus transfers directly to and from the hotels made for smooth transitions and relaxing days! When our travel package was waiting for us on arrival at our hotel in Christchurch, we knew we were in good hands.

When we wanted to add some day trips at the last minute, you made that happen. You were even there to promptly provide a refund when we had some bad weather and kept up with us through email to make sure we had all of the information we needed at all times.

Thank you so much for your prompt, personal, and efficient service! It was the trip of a lifetime!

Skyline Gondola and Buffet Dinner

Review for Skyline Gondola and Buffet Dinner
Our family spent the last afternoon and night at the top. We headed up at 3pm and started with a few rides on the luge. Heaps of fun, and just daring enough for us as we are not quite Bungy people.

Then we enjoyed cocktails over looking that amazing view as the Sun turned the snow capped mountains pink.We finished the night with the buffet dinner which was excellent with great foid choices and suprisingly beautifully presented choices. The service from the staff was also excellent.

Totally recommend this as a beautiful way to end a stay in Queenstown. We pre-booked as not to miss out.

Having limited time but wishing to see as much of the South Island as possible I booked the 6 day tour with Scenic Pacific.

Sophie was my tour organiser and did a great job fitting in with my schedule and my flights to and from Christchurch.

The bus and train journeys were amazing as were all the sights around the island. The tour was really well organised including a number of transfers, nice hotels, awesome cruises especially Milford Sound.

Would highly recommend Scenic Pacific for your South Island tour.

Milford Mariner Overnight Cruise departing Queenstown

Review for Milford Mariner Overnight Cruise departing Queenstown
The overnight stay on Milford Mariner was a highlight of our six week NZ trip. We were lucky with the weather in February being blazing hot so much so that perhaps the waterfalls were not seen at their very best but a small price to pay.

Real Journeys were excellent throughout, providing a luxurious coach and a hugely entertaining / informative driver for the very long journey from Queenstown. There is no other way to see Milford Sound than on this vessel (and its sister ship) and we had the whole Sound to ourselves from early evening to the morning. Kayaking from the boat was wonderful and the evening meal was excellent too.

Cannot rate this experience highly enough.

6 Day Best of the South Tour

Review for 6 Day Best of the South Tour
It was a seamless, safe and smooth sailing independent trip for a solo traveler.

I enjoyed dealing with both Sophie and Janet as they helped to put together my itinerary despite the short notice I gave them especially with our difference in time zones prior to the trip. The team was efficient, responsive and professional in planning out my entire southern tour.

During the tour, I like how the bus conductors were always happy to share their knowledge as we drive past the scenic places with their commentaries. My hotels were clean and strategically located.

Only downside was the unpredictable rain during winter so do plan for extra time if traveling during off peak seasons in order to get the best of the trip.

Overall, it was an awesome solo trip and I would definitely go back because of how Scenic Pacific made it so memorable for me.

Just wanted to thank you for organising my tour. Everything so far has gone like clockwork, with everyone being there when the itinerary said they would be. Made it so easy and stress free.

The choice of activities was phenomenal. Varied, and all interesting, giving me a great overview of the South Island. I’m so glad that I decided to take your tour.

Cheers and thanks again.

We just want you to know we are home safely and to THANK YOU for the wonderful time we had in New Zealand.

Our trip there was amazing and your magnificent planning is even more amazing. All of our pick ups / drop offs, tickets for various activities and many other things we are probably forgetting to mention were perfect. The hotels were excellent and the service and friendliness of all New Zealander’s was evident everywhere.

We do want to put your dependability and attention to detail on the web somewhere. We have given your agency’s name out everywhere and hope others will contact you on our recommendation.

We are also glad we kept in the glacier walk – it was fantastic and that is not nearly a good enough description. Our guide was so kind. We are 70 and 68. We think our guide was concerned because of our age and had us do a brief physical test. We passed with no trouble but he requested we stay at the front with him. Actually, the walk turned out to be no problem but his caring and carefulness was impressive.

Again, Karina, thank you and also pass along out thanks to others who may have had a part in our trip. Please let me know where we can best post our unqualified delight and confidence in your trip planning and your agency.

7 Day Mountains and Glaciers Tour

Review for 7 Day Mountains and Glaciers Tour
Dear Janet
I am now back home in Switzerland and would like to pass on mine and Josie’s thanks to you for making our trip to NZ happen.

Everything worked like clockwork, we were incredibly lucky with the weather and only had one we day in all 8. We managed to get front seat on most of the coach trips; all connections worked perfectly, even the cruise & penguin tour as the coach was 5-10 minutes late. Our pick up and cruise were waiting for us and the tour delivered our bags to our hotel.

We loved NZ and will be back. I’ll do more wildlife stuff (I’d love to visit Stewart Island) and Josie to watch sunsets, bungy jump and ride more adventurous rapids – she has not had her full Queenstown adrenaline rush! We saw albatross and penguins, dolphins, seals, kea and a lot more.

Most of the coach drivers were very accommodating, ran commentary and stopped for a few photos but a couple were a little grumpy and just doing their job of getting from A to B, but we appreciate that some of our travels were on scheduled coach travel rather than tours.

So again a big thank you for all the planning and if you send a link I will happily review on Trip Advisor or which ever site you’d rather.

Carry on the good work and I will definitely recommend you. All the best.

Milford Wanderer Overnight Cruise departing Queenstown

Review for Milford Wanderer Overnight Cruise departing Queenstown
We did the overnight cruise on Milford Sound on Milford Wanderer and could not have been happier.

Picked up from hotel in Queenstown by Craig. Very informative, funny trip through to the sound via Te Anau and many other rest/photo stops.

Boarding the Wanderer was seamless and we were underway shortly after arriving. Well informed regarding what was happening throughout the evening and the rain made the cascades and waterfalls amazing … The skipper and crew do amazing job highlighting all sights and give you heaps of fantastic photo opportunities. Hard to get a bad photo here though!

Craig made the long bus trip back to Queenstown informative once again, very knowledgeable and never stuck for a word! We thoroughly loved the whole experience and can’t recommend it enough.

8 Day Southern Traverse Tour

Review for 8 Day Southern Traverse Tour
I’m at last home after my travel (I spent some time in Brunei on the way back to the UK and then went straight to my sister’s for Easter), and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my New Zealand tour.

I was blessed with fine weather for all the week on the West Coast including glorious sunshine and blue skies on the Franz Josef Glacier. All the arrangements worked perfectly and the hotels were very comfortable and I enjoyed seeing so much of New Zealand from the coaches.

I was a little worried because the coaches didn’t generally have lavatories on them, but we made regular rest stop and so this didn’t turn out to be a problem.

It was only when I read the itinerary in details that I realised that I was actually going to fly up to the Franz Josef Glacier by helicopter and walk on the ice – this was quite a challenge for someone who is basically unfit and in his sixties, but thanks to the guide I was able to manage the rather strenuous glacier walk. This was probably the highlight of the tour, though I enjoyed the cruise around Milford Sound, the day in Queenstown (as well as the Gondola, I visited the Kiwi Birdlife Park and saw some Kiwi as well as other interesting birds and I also went on a lake cruise on the steamship TSS Earnslaw).

The weekend in Dunedin (I saw a Yellowed Eyed penguin in the wild as well as a Little Blue penguin in Dunedin Harbour on the Otago Peninsula Tour and also had time to visit the Otago Museum, the Settler’s Museum, Olveston House, the University of Otago and various other places), and finally the TranzAlpine Train which certainly exceeded its reputation.

There’s still a lot of the South Island that I haven’t seen, so if I get the chance to make a return visit in the next few years I’ll certainly be in touch again.

Many thanks for all your work in arranging such a memorable experience.
Kind regards

Big Sky Stargazing

Review for Big Sky Stargazing
We didn’t go the center, but we did go on the Big Sky Stargazing tour that was booked through the Hermitage Hotel Activity Desk — it was amazing.

It starts with a 30 minute video of the sky and explaining what we would be seeing. Then they give you warm coats (very much appreciated) and drive you a short distance to a place away from all the lights. They had 4 telescopes set up, and the guides were so good at showing what you were seeing in the sky. The stars were amazing and they explained about what we were seeing. It was an incredible experience, and the stars were amazing.

Very worth the time and money!!!! You must do this.

I just loved Milford Sound. So peaceful and beautiful. Sunrise / sunset is reflected in the waters, fur seals frolicking under the sun and the clearness of the water is just amazing. Taking an overnight cruise was even more special – I got to know some beautiful people across the globe. We had some amazing weather, super sunny the whole time I was there and I was able to take a plane flight back. Very lucky.

Onwards to Franz Josef…. Thank you for organising this trip.

The trip went off without a single hitch and the itinerary allowed us to see a lot of the South Island in just a few days.

I wish we could have spent longer, but I think packing it into 6 days was a good way to go. Glad I did not try to drive it!

We love the South Island… the sights, the people, the food etc. All of the motels were in great locations and the coaches seemed so efficient, on time, and the drivers were great.

So, thanks for setting this up on short notice and providing a great tour.
