Day 1: Christchurch - Greymouth - Franz Josef
Leaving Christchurch on board the TranzAlpine Train, we cross the Canterbury Plains and into the Arthur's Pass National Park. From Arthur's Pass our journey is via an 8.5 km long rail tunnel that has been cut through the heart of the Southern Alps. Once on the West Coast we follow a narrow coastal strip of beech forest with spectacular mountain back drop south to the glaciers. After arriving at Franz Josef, a shuttle will collect you from your accommodation and take you to the glacier carpark. From the carpark take a 15 minute walk to the glacier look out point (this walk is not guided).
Option: Spend an extra day at the glaciers and experience a guided walk onto the glacier or to enjoy some of the many bushwalks.

Day 2: Franz Josef - Queenstown
We travel with deeper into South Westland taking in the spectacle of Haast Pass, carved by the Haast River and framed by the Southern Alps. Take in the views of many beautiful lakes including Wanaka, Hawea, Dunstan and Wakatipu before arriving into Queenstown.

Day 3: Free Day in Queenstown
A full day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort style town. We have included the
Skyline Gondola in your tour for you to use at your leisure today. There are dozens of activities including
white water rafting, jetboating, sky diving, bungy jumping, lake cruises, high
country sheep station tours and excellent walking trails. Something for

Day 4: Queenstown - Milford Sound - Te Anau
A full day tour to the World Heritage listed, Fiordland National Park - a truly spectacular region of snow capped mountains, glacier lakes, fiords, waterfalls and dense forest. From Te Anau, travel to the forested Eglington Valley, Mirror Lakes, Homer Tunnel and Chasm before arriving into Milford Sound. Enjoy a one and a half hour cruise of Milford Sound viewing the spectacular waterfalls and Mitre Peak before returning to Te Anau.

Day 5: Te Anau - Dunedin
High country tussock soon gives way to the lush pastures of Southland and Otago as you travel through Gore and Balclutha arriving in Dunedin early afternoon. This afternoon enjoy a scenic drive along the Otago Peninsula to Wellers Rock where you will join your cruise. Cruise around the tip of the Otago Peninsula. See what can't be seen from land: albatross, New Zealand furseals and up to 20 species of birds and marine mammals in their environment. Learn the fascinating history and geology of the area. Revel in the fresh sea air! Cruise back up the beautiful Otago Harbour, passing by the working port of Port Chalmers and historic fishing village of Careys Bay.

Day 6: Dunedin - Christchurch
Morning at leisure in Dunedin to take in some of the many sights. In the afternoon travel north over the undulating hill country of Otago and through the cities of Oamaru and Timaru. Leaving Timaru we enter the patchwork of the Canterbury Plains, the largest plain in New Zealand arriving in the "Garden City" of Christchurch.

TOUR TYPE - INDEPENDENT TOUR
Independent tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.
