Day 1: Christchurch - Mt Cook - Queenstown
Depart Christchurch and begin your journey south following the foothills of the Southern Alps to Mt Cook village via lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. There is time for lunch (extra cost) or take one of the many short alpine walks in the area. Depart for Queenstown travelling via the Lindis Pass and the Kawarau Gorge.
Accommodation: Bella Vista Motel, Scenic Suites or similar
Day 2: Full Day Excursion to Milford Sound
Today you will experience one of the world's greatest natural wonders - the Fiordland National Park - a world heritage park. A vast remote wilderness with snow capped mountains, glacial lakes and valleys, fiords, islands, waterfalls and dense forests. Travel to Te Anau and onto the forested Eglinton Valley, through the Homer Tunnel and out into breath-taking Milford Sound. Enjoy a one and a half hour cruise of Milford Sound viewing spectacular waterfalls, wildlife and famous Mitre Peak.

Option: A scenic flight may be taken for the return journey to Queenstown (additional cost). If interested, please request at time of booking.
Accommodation: Bella Vista Motel, Scenic Suites or similar.
Day 3 Queenstown - Franz Josef Glacier
Leaving Queenstown we travel to the West Coast passing through Cromwell, Wanaka and Hawea before climbing over the Haast Pass into the Westland National Park. The Haast Pass is our southern-most pass that traverses the Southern Alps linking the East Coast with the West Coast. At 4.45 pm you will be collected from your accommodation and transferred to the Glacier Carpark where you can take any one of the number of short walks available to see the glacier (this walk is not guided).

Option: Spend an extra day at the glaciers to experience a half day guided walk onto the glacier or to enjoy some of the many bushwalks.
Accommodation: Bella Vista Motel, Scenic Hotel Franz Josef Glacier or similar.
Day 4 Franz Josef - Christchurch
Travel north through lush rainforests and spectacular scenery to Greymouth where we transfer onto the TranzAlpine Train. A remarkable journey of little more than four hours from the West Coast to the East Coast including the lush rainforests of the Arthur's Pass National Park. Pass through the Southern Alps via the Otira Tunnel, cross massive viaducts over the Waimakariri Gorge descending to the fertile farmlands of the Canterbury Plains and on to the 'Garden City' of Christchurch.

This tour exceeded my expectations. I found myself travelling on my own when my travel companions became ill and so had to change my plans and book a tour organised by yourselves. It couldn't have been easier and travelling alone was not at all daunting (as I thought it might have been). I loved the scenery, the commentary, the people, the motels and the fruit I was able to buy in Cromwell!. I loved sitting on the coach and being higher up than if I was in a car and being able to see so much more than if I was driving myself. The coaches were clean, comfortable and kept at a pleasant temperature. The commentaries on all the coaches on which I travelled were without exception, excellent. Each driver had his own inimitable style, each was very knowledgeable and thoughtful of individuals' needs. I would recommend Pacific Travel to others and I would use them again. Thanks again for a great trip.

Back home in Newcastle near the beach again. Thanks for the wonderful 4 day tour. I was
pleasantly surprised at the commentary from the coach drivers (that there was any in fact) as I
thought that the independent tour type would be just like travelling A to B on a coach..... so well
done and congratulations to the drivers .... keeping the travellers informed and on the ball with the
timing of departures etc. Lovely part of the world!

Cheers H. Smith

I've been meaning to write you to let you know that I loved the South Island tour you arranged for me April 6-10. All of the vouchers/arrangements were perfect. I loved the Novotel on the lake and the Distinctive Fox Glacier inn was so beautiful. Much preferred that town to Franz Josef. Many thanks again.

I wish to thank you for organising our 4 day tour in the South Island. We were exceedingly impressed with how everything went so smoothly. We had a lovely time. The scenery was so impressive, the hotels were excellent, the coach drivers were so well informed relaying so many interesting facts and the icing on the cake was the aircraft ride and also the helicopter trip. Everything was seamless, ten minutes after leaving the cruise on Milford Sound we were up in an aircraft over the fiord. Similarly half an hour after arriving in Franz Josef we were up on top of the glacier. I cannot thank you enough.
Kind regards Irene Smith

This tour departs daily

As this is an 'independent' styled tour, you can depart whatever day you like! (subject to availability)

What is an independent tour?
Independent tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.
