At 4.45 pm you will be collected from your accommodation and transferred to the Glacier Carpark where you can take any one of the number of short walks available to see the glacier (this walk is not guided).

Day 4 Franz Josef - Christchurch
Travel north through lush rainforests and spectacular scenery to Greymouth where we transfer onto the TranzAlpine Train. TOUR TYPE - INDEPENDENT TOUR
Independent tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.
Frequently Asked Questions about our Independent Tours
This tour exceeded my expectations. I found myself travelling on my own when my travel companions became ill and so had to change my plans and book a tour organised by yourselves. It couldn't have been easier and travelling alone was not at all daunting (as I thought it might have been). I loved the scenery, the commentary, the people, the motels and the fruit I was able to buy in Cromwell!. I loved sitting on the coach and being higher up than if I was in a car and being able to see so much more than if I was driving myself. The coaches were clean, comfortable and kept at a pleasant temperature. The commentaries on all the coaches on which I travelled were without exception, excellent. Each driver had his own inimitable style, each was very knowledgeable and thoughtful of individuals' needs. I would recommend Pacific Travel to others and I would use them again. Thanks again for a great trip.
Back home in Newcastle near the beach again. Thanks for the wonderful 4 day tour. I was
pleasantly surprised at the commentary from the coach drivers (that there was any in fact) as I
thought that the independent tour type would be just like travelling A to B on a coach..... so well
done and congratulations to the drivers .... keeping the travellers informed and on the ball with the
timing of departures etc. Lovely part of the world!
Cheers H. Smith
I've been meaning to write you to let you know that I loved the South Island tour you arranged for me April 6-10. All of the vouchers/arrangements were perfect. I loved the Novotel on the lake and the Distinctive Fox Glacier inn was so beautiful. Much preferred that town to Franz Josef. Many thanks again.
I wish to thank you for organising our 4 day tour in the South Island. We were exceedingly impressed with how everything went so smoothly. We had a lovely time. The scenery was so impressive, the hotels were excellent, the coach drivers were so well informed relaying so many interesting facts and the icing on the cake was the aircraft ride and also the helicopter trip. Everything was seamless, ten minutes after leaving the cruise on Milford Sound we were up in an aircraft over the fiord. Similarly half an hour after arriving in Franz Josef we were up on top of the glacier. I cannot thank you enough.
Kind regards Irene Smith
