Day 1: Auckland - Hobbiton - Waitomo Caves - Rotorua
Travel south from Auckland through the lush farmland of the Waikato and King Country regions. Enjoy a guided tour through the Hobbiton Movie Set. Your tour guide will share amazing behind-the-scenes stories and fascinating facts about how the film set was brought to life. Your next stop is the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. A guided tour takes you through the long galleries and lofty chambers of the World Famous Glow Worm Caves. After exploring these top NZ visitor attractions, you arrive in Rotorua.
Day 2: Free Day in Rotorua
Full day at leisure in the geothermal city of Rotorua. We are happy to recommend and include additional activities. Perhaps visit the Agrodome for a farm tour, take a stroll along the lakefront or venture further out of the city and visit Wai-o-tapu & Waimangu Thermal Valleys. This evening enjoy a traditional Maori Hangi & Concert.
Day 3: Rotorua - Wellington
This morning travel past Lake Taupo and on through the Desert Road where on a clear day you get wonderful views of the towering peaks of Mt Ngaruahoe, Tongariro and Ruapehu beforing arriving into our capital city of Wellington.
Day 4: Free Day in Wellington
Today you have a full day at leisure to explore New Zealand's capital city and the birth place of Sir Peter Jackson. We are happy to suggest sightseeing options. Perhaps a visit to Weta Cave, Te Papa Museum, take a ride up the Cable Car or head to Cuba Street for a slice of Bohemia and boutique shopping.
Day 5: Wellington - Christchurch
Today you have the option of spending the morning in Wellington or taking an early flight to Christchurch to spend the day there. You will need to make your own flight arrangements to fly between Wellington and Christchurch – you can arrange your flight at anytime today.
Day 6: Christchurch - Mount Cook - Queenstown
Travel south following the foothills of the Southern Alps to Mount Cook Village via Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. Free time in Mount Cook before continuing on to Queenstown travelling via the Lindis Pass and the Kawarau Gorge.
Day 7: Safari of the Scenes 4WD Tour
Take a morning 4WD tour that is perfect for those that want the thrills of an off road adventure but also want to discover exciting Lord of the Rings film locations. The tour takes you to The Remarkables, which were used as various mountain scenes throughout the trilogy including the Misty Mountains. Travelling part way up this beautiful mountain range you get a bird’s eye view onto Deer Park Heights which was used for the refugees of Rohan and the Battle of the Wargs scenes. Other highlights of the morning include the Kawarau Gorge and Arrowtown where the loss of The One Ring at Gladden Fields was filmed. Near Arrowtown you will experience a true off road adventure.
Day 8: Free Day in Queenstown
A free day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort town. There are dozens of activities available - something for everyone. Please ask at time of booking for additional options.
Day 9: Queenstown - Fox Glacier
Leaving Queenstown, travel to the West Coast passing via the Hasst Pass into Westland National Park. Take a short trip to enjoy the views of the glacier.
Stay: Fox Glacier
Day 10: Fox Glacier - Greymouth - Christchurch
Travel north through lush rainforest to Greymouth where you will transfer to the TranzAlpine Train. Enjoy a remarkable train journey across the Southern Alps and across the Canterbury Plains to the "Garden City" of Christchurch.

TOUR TYPE - INDEPENDENT TOUR
Independent tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.
