Akaroa is a small French and British colonial township located on Banks Peninsula 1 hour and 15 minutes from Christchurch city. Nestled within an old volcano the town moves at a relaxed pace but with good deal of things to do and see. Akaroa has its own beautiful bays and harbour and is home to the smallest and rarest – the Hector’s dolphin. A cruise out on the harbour will keep you entertained, not only with the Hector’s dolphin but with a torrent of other incredible wildlife including white-flippered penguins, NZ fur seals and a healthy number of seabirds.
There are numerous cafes which open out onto the street with beautiful views of the harbour and boutique art and craft shops around each corner.
