You also have a free day in Queenstown where you have the freedom to be as adventurous or relaxed as you like. Enjoy a day trip to Milford Sound and be amazed by the sheer mountains and natural beauty of this area - a must on any travel itinerary. The last leg of your South Island journey visits Mt Cook village en-route to Christchurch.

TOUR TYPE - INDEPENDENT TOUR
Independent Tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.
Day By Day Itinerary
DAY 1 - WELLINGTON / PICTON / NELSON
From Wellington, board the Interislander ferry that will take you across Cook Strait to Picton where you board your coach bound for Nelson. Your journey today passes through the Marlborough vineyards and the Nelson state forests. Afternoon at leisure.
DAY 2 - NELSON AT LEISURE
Today enjoy a day at leisure in "sunny" Nelson. Here, creative minds flourish and you'll enjoy the numerous studios and art galleries. Or, perhaps an optional day tour to beautiful Abel Tasman National Park where you can enjoy various walking and crusing options.
DAY 3 - NELSON / FRANZ JOSEF
Travel south following the rugged coastline through the Paparoa National Park to Punakaiki. There is a brief opportunity to view the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes before continuing your journey to Franz Josef.

DAY 4 - FRANZ JOSEF AT LEISURE
A leisure day in the stunning glacier region. Why not rug up warm and enjoy an optional heli hike. Experience the incredible ice caves with your guide as you wonder over the icy pinnacles. We are happy to include this in your package.

DAY 5 - FRANZ JOSEF / QUEENSTOWN
Depart Franz Josef travelling deeper into South Westland taking in the spectacle of Haast Pass, carved by the Haast River and framed by the Southern Alps. Take in the views of many beautiful lakes including Wanaka, Hawea, Dunstan and Wakatipu before arriving into Queenstown.
DAY 6 - MILFORD SOUND DAY TOUR
Travel to the Fiordland National Park – a world heritage park. A vast remote wilderness of snow-capped mountains, glacial lakes and valleys, fiords, waterfalls and dense rainforests. From Te Anau, travel to the forested Eglinton Valley, Mirror Lakes, Homer Tunnel and the Chasm before arriving at Milford Sound. Enjoy a one and a half hour cruise of Milford Sound viewing the spectacular waterfalls and famous Mitre Peak.
DAY 7 - QUEENSTOWN AT LEISURE
Full day at leisure in Queenstown. There are dozens of optional activities such as thrilling jet boat rides on the river, white water rafting, helicopter rides, sky diving, bungy jumps and cruises on the lake. Please ask at time of booking if you would like us to book any additional activities.
DAY 7 - QUEENSTOWN / MT COOK / CHRISTCHURCH
Today you travel through the rugged Kawarau Gorge to Cromwell and over the Lindis Pass to the Mount Cook National Park. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Hermitage Hotel along with some free time to enjoy the spectacular surroundings before continuing to Lake Tekapo. After a brief stop at the Church of the Good Shepherd, our journey continues across the Canterbury Plains arriving in the “Garden City” of Christchurch in the evening.
