Day By Day Itinerary
DAY 1 - WELLINGTON / TAUPO
Board your coach for your journey north out of the capital city, along the Kapiti Coast and over the Manawatu Plain to Palmerston North before skirting the volcanic plateau to Taupo. Arriving in Taupo early afternoon you have the rest of the afternoon to explore at your leisure.
DAY 2 - TAUPO / ROTORUA
This morning is free for optional sightseeing. We suggest a visit to Huka Falls or maybe some early morning lake fishing. Taupo is internationally recognised for its prized trophy-sized trout. We are happy to include optional sightseeing into your itinerary. In the afternoon depart Taupo for your journey to Rotorua.
DAY 3 - ROTORUA SIGHTSEEING
This morning enjoy a fabulous sightseeing tour. First stop, the Agrodome, an organic working farm where you can learn all about farming in New Zealand. Take a tour of the Agrodome farm in an all-terrain vehicle, see how sheep are shorn and watch a live sheep dog trial.
Leaving the Agrodome, we make our way to Te Puia, one of New Zealand’s foremost cultural venues. At Te Puia’s marae (meeting house) you will receive a traditional welcome and be invited to experience a Māori cultural performance, in which ancient and modern stories are told through song, dance, poi and stick games. You’ll gain an understanding of this unique culture and its history and be thoroughly entertained by the talented and charismatic performers.
Next to Te Puia is the famous Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley. Take a guided tour of its active geysers and boiling mudpools. See the world-famous Pohutu geyser unleash vapour jets up to 30 metres high. Your tour also includes entry to Te Puia’s woodcarving and weaving schools, where you can see apprentices being trained in these traditional skills. This afternoon is at leisure.
DAY 4 - ROTORUA / WAITOMO / AUCKLAND
Depart Rotorua travelling north to the Waitomo Caves. Visit the Glow Worm Grotto for a spectacular display of tiny lights emitted by these unique life forms deep in the cave grotto. Continue onto Auckland, the ‘City of Sails’ where your tour ends mid afternoon.
