Day By Day Itinerary

DAY 1 - QUEENSTOWN / DUNEDIN

This morning travel through central Otago to Dunedin by coach. This afternoon is at leisure. Perhaps an Otago Peninsula Tour? Cruise around the tip of the Otago Peninsula. See what can’t be seen from land: albatross, New Zealand fur seals and up to 20 species of birds and marine mammals in their environment. Learn the fascinating history and geology of the area. Please ask us about this option.

Stay: Dunedin

DAY 2 - DUNEDIN / CHRISTCHURCH

Free time this morning in Dunedin for your own sightseeing. In the afternoon travel north through the undulating hill country of Otago through the cities of Oamaru and Timaru. Leaving Timaru we enter the patchwork of the Canterbury Plains, the largest plain in New Zealand arriving in the “Garden City” of Christchurch.

Stay: Christchurch

DAY 3 - CHRISTCHURCH / GREYMOUTH / FRANZ JOSEF

Depart Christchurch city on The TranzAlpine train. Cross the Canterbury Plains and into the Arthur’s Pass National Park. From Arthur’s Pass our journey is via an 8.5 km long rail tunnel that has been cut through the heart of the Southern Alps. Once on the West Coast we follow a narrow coastal strip of beech forest with spectacular mountain back- drops south to the glaciers for two nights stay.

Stay: Franz Josef

DAY 4 - FRANZ JOSEF AT LEISURE

Today we have included a short sightseeing tour. You will be transferred to Franz Josef Glacier where you can view the glacier from a lovely viewing platform after a short 10 minute walk (unguided). Or you might like to up-grade to a glacier heli hike? A fantastic heli-hop to the top of the glacier where you can enjoy the every changing ice with your fully trained guide. The rest of your day is free at leisure to explore Franz Josef.

Stay: Franz Josef

DAY 5 - FRANZ JOSEF / QUEENSTOWN

We travel deeper into South Westland taking in the spectacle of Haast Pass, carved by the Haast River and framed by the Southern Alps. Take in the views of many beautiful lakes including Wanaka, Hawea, Dunstan and Wakatipu before arriving into Queenstown.
