TOUR TYPE - INDEPENDENT TOUR
Independent Tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.
Day By Day Itinerary
DAY 1 - CHRISTCHURCH / GREYMOUTH / NELSON
Board the world renowned TranzAlpine train bound for Greymouth via the Arthur’s Pass National Park. Cross the Canterbury Plains, travel over viaducts and through tunnels and into the lush rainforests of the West Coast. On arrival in Greymouth board your coach for your journey North to Nelson. An afternoon stop is made at Punakaiki where you can view the Pancake Rocks.
DAY 2 - ABEL TASMAN NATIONAL PARK
Your full day tour to the Abel Tasman National Park commences with a morning pick up from your accommodation. Drive through horticultural areas to Motueka and on to beautiful Kaiteriteri beach where you board your launch. You have various cruise/walking options in the National Park during the day before returning to Nelson. A stunning day out!
DAY 3 - NELSON / KAIKOURA
Travel through the Nelson state forests to Blenheim before heading south to the seaside resort of Kaikoura. Enjoy spectacular views of the Kaikoura coastline and the seaward Kaikoura mountain range. Afternoon at leisure in Kaikoura.
DAY 4 - KAIKOURA / CHRISTCHURCH
This morning enjoy a 3 hour cruise with Kaikoura Whale Watch to marvel at the giant sperm whale and the dusky dolphins. Kaikoura Whale Watch has won many international awards for tourism excellence and marine conservation. In the afternoon sit back and relax aboard the Coastal Pacific train*. Enjoy the stunning scenery as you travel south to Christchurch.
* Travel may be by coach if the Coastal Pacific train is not operating
DAY 5 - CHRISTCHURCH / DUNEDIN
Travel south over the Canterbury Plains to the cities of Timaru and Oamaru. Follow the coastline to Palmerston and then its over the Kilmog Hill and Mt Cargill to Dunedin – the Edinburgh of the south. Afternoon at leisure in Dunedin. Ask us at time of booking if you wish to do a tour to see the penguins/seals on Otago peninsula.
DAY 6 - DUNEDIN / TE ANAU
Morning at leisure in Dunedin, perhaps a stroll around this beautiful city taking in some of the remarkable architecture. In the afternoon travel through the lush pastures of Otago and Southland to the lakeside resort of Te Anau.

DAY 7 - TE ANAU / MILFORD SOUND / QUEENSTOWN
Regarded as one of the World’s most scenic journeys into Fiordland National Park – a world heritage area. Enjoy a stunning cruise of Milford Sound viewing spectacular waterfalls and famous Mitre Peaks before heading to Queenstown.
DAY 8 - QUEENSTOWN AT LEISURE
A full day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort. There are dozens of activities including white water rafting, jetboating, sky diving, bungy jumping, lake cruises, high country sheep station tours and excellent walking trails. DAY 9 - QUEENSTOWN / MT COOK / CHRISTCHURCH
Leave Queenstown and travel through the rugged Kawarau Gorge to Cromwell and up over the Lindis Pass to Mt Cook National Park. Time is available at Mt Cook village for a delicious lunch at Hermitage Hotel and perhaps a short walk before continuing to Lake Tekapo and across the Canterbury Plains to the “Garden City” of Christchurch.
