TOUR TYPE - INDEPENDENT TOUR
Independent Tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.
Day By Day Itinerary
DAY 1 - WELCOME TO CHRISTCHURCH
You will be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation. Depending on your flight, there may be time for you to explore the "Garden City". Take a relaxing tram ride through the city and enjoy the interesting commentary of past and present, wonder through the beautiful Botanical Gardens and alongside the Avon River or take a look through the worlds only cardboard cathedral.
DAY 2 - CHRISTCHURCH / MT COOK
Travel south then west across the Canterbury Plains to the foothills of the Southern Alps. We pass through the rural towns of Geraldine and Fairlie before arriving at Lake Tekapo, the first of two glacial lakes we will see today. Time is available to view the Church of the Good Shepherd and to have a brief stop in the village before leaving for Mount Cook. At Puakai, we leave the main road and follow the shore of Lake Pukaki, past Glentanner High Country Station to the alpine resort of Mount Cook, nestled amongst the majestic Southern Alps.

DAY 3 - MT COOK AT LEISURE
Mighty Aoraki / Mt Cook soaring above at 3,724 metres. This area contains more than 140 peaks and 72 glaciers in the region – something special to look at in every direction. Today, perhaps take a boat trip on the Tasman Glacier Lake and touch an iceberg for yourself (seasonal), take a ski plane flight or visit the Mt Cook National Park Headquarters and learn about the interesting flora and fauna of this area.

DAY 4 - MT COOK / QUEENSTOWN
Time is available this morning for any additional activities. This afternoon we leave Mt Cook bound for Queenstown passing on the way the many hydro electric power schemes of the McKenzie Basin and through the tussock clad hills of the Lindis Pass to Cromwell, a major stone-fruit producing region. From here we travel through the craggy Kawarau Gorge, past the famous Bungy Jump bridge and onto Queenstown overlooking beautiful Lake Wakatipu.
DAY 5 - MILFORD SOUND DAY EXCURSION
A full day tour to the World Heritage listed, Fiordland National Park. Travel by coach with interesting commentary during the journey. Enjoy cruising Milford Sound and viewing the spectacular waterfalls and towering Mitre Peak before returning to Queenstown in the evening.
DAY 6 - QUEENSTOWN AT LEISURE
A free day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort town. There are dozens of activities available from jet boating, rafting, bungy jumping to a more gentle ride up the gondola or a trip across Lake Wakatipu on the TSS Earnslaw – something for everyone. We are happy to include additional activities into your tour.
DAY 7 - QUEENSTOWN / FRANZ JOSEF
Travel to Cromwell and on through the Southern Lakes district to Haast Pass. Continue north through dense rainforest broken by rugged coastal vistas, towards the glaciers.

DAY 8 - FRANZ JOSEF AT LEISURE
Today enjoy a delightful day at leisure in the small but bustling town of Franz Josef. There are a number of activities available from a dramatic guided heli hike on the ice, a walk to the terminal face or a short transfer to the glacier lookout point. Please ask us for options, we are happy to make recommendations and include in your tour package.

DAY 9 - FRANZ JOSEF / GREYMOUTH / CHRISTCHURCH
Continue north through lush rainforest and spectacular scenery to Greymouth to board the famous TranzAlpine Train, recognised as one of the top six rail journeys in the world. Arrive into Christchurch early evening.
DAY 10 - DEPART CHRISTCHURCH
Today you have an opportunity to enjoy Christchurch’s, Garden City before departing. Your tour comes to end after checking out of your accommodation this morning.
