Hi Sophie
Apologies for the late reply as I’ve been busy for the past few days. I am really glad that I decided to join the tour as we enjoyed it!

Your country is truly beautiful and amazing, it became my dream country to live in! The people are extremely friendly and I was impressed by the coach drivers who were very informative. Only downside is the bad weather when we were in Queenstown and Dunedin but that can’t be helped as its winter.

I would like to thank you and your company on my family’s behalf.
I just wanted to thank you for all your help you gave me on deciding to go on an un-escorted coach trip recently. We went on the 7 Day Mountains and Glaciers tour which was fantastic.

Every connection whether it be the bus at our accommodation or the taxis taking us to the train or bus was just terrific, not one hitch. We just wish we had a day or two more in Queenstown – but there is always next time.

So, once again thank you for a memorable holiday.
We have just returned from our wonderful holiday. After the New Zealand trip which you arranged, we visited Australia and Singapore.

We would just like to thank you and your company for arranging the Scenic Pacific itinerary. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of New Zealand especially the Alpine train – we will be back.

We really loved the Franz Josef stay, we did the helicopter trip to the top of the glacier. Queenstown was also great. We were also very lucky with the weather on the trip. The day before we arrived in Franz Josef it had rained, but the sun shone when we were there and it was a really lovely day.

Many thanks for all your help. Best wishes.
We arrived back in Christchurch last night at the end of our South Island tour.

Everything went splendidly, organisation could not be faulted, thank you so much. We really enjoyed the whole experience very much. I would like to put in a word about the Distinction Hotel in Dunedin which was truly wonderful.

Once again, thank you very much for your hard work and we really love your country.
Dear Janet
I am now back home in Switzerland and would like to pass on mine and Josie’s thanks to you for making our trip to NZ happen.

Everything worked like clockwork, we were incredibly lucky with the weather and only had one we day in all 8. We managed to get front seat on most of the coach trips; all connections worked perfectly, even the cruise & penguin tour as the coach was 5-10 minutes late. Our pick up and cruise were waiting for us and the tour delivered our bags to our hotel.

We loved NZ and will be back. I’ll do more wildlife stuff (I’d love to visit Stewart Island) and Josie to watch sunsets, bungy jump and ride more adventurous rapids – she has not had her full Queenstown adrenaline rush! We saw albatross and penguins, dolphins, seals, kea and a lot more.

Most of the coach drivers were very accommodating, ran commentary and stopped for a few photos but a couple were a little grumpy and just doing their job of getting from A to B, but we appreciate that some of our travels were on scheduled coach travel rather than tours.

So again a big thank you for all the planning and if you send a link I will happily review on Trip Advisor or which ever site you’d rather.

Carry on the good work and I will definitely recommend you. All the best.
We had a great tour thanks, it all went smoothly. All of our accommodation was very good.

Some of the bus drivers were very informative and everyone we came across were really helpful and friendly.

The service you’ve provided has made travelling stress free! I wasn’t expecting the ticket booklet or the tourist leaflets in our pack but I thought that was a really good system and it was useful to have the leaflets to take a look at, especially for Christchurch which wasn’t included in our tour.

We’re currently waiting for our flight back to the UK so thank you for your services, I would definitely recommend them. Best wishes.
Hi Janet

Thank you very much for organizing our trip, we had a lovely time and everything went very smoothly.

The highlight of the trip for us was staying at the Edgewater Resort hotel, at Wanaka, it is very peaceful and beautiful there and very relaxing.

We loved the ride to Milford Sound, with such spectacular scenery, also the cruise was lovely and they gave us a wonderful lunch. The Hermitage Hotel at Mount Cook is a lovely hotel, but unfortunately it rained and we were unable to see the Star Gazing outside, however we saw information on the inside planetarium which was very interesting. At Franz Josef it was too cloudy to fly on the Grand Traverse flight, so please could you refund the money. I will have to visit again to try to do this flight !!

We enjoyed staying at the Ibis Hotel in Christchurch as it is so central and we could walk to see the Botanical Gardens and catch the Double Decker bus. The driver gave a really interesting commentary and it was well worth doing. We were very impressed by how we were picked up on time for each part of our itinerary and your instructions were very clear and good.

So thank you very much once again for a great holiday.
Kind regards
This was our first time going on an independent tour and To be honest, we had our doubts on the logistical arrangements as we had to cover several sights – but I must say that the whole journey was almost seamless from the time we were picked up from our accommodation in Christchurch and return.

Thank you Sophie who helped with our arrangements and booking.

Highly recommended- if you dislike travelling as part of a tour group and would like flexibilities in customizing your itinerary.
Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise departing Queenstown Tour
Hi Tess

Thank you so much for organising our trip to South Island so well. Everything worked like clockwork. The accommodation you chose were all so well situated. We had a wonderful time and we were lucky as Milford Sound had been closed for 3 days because of snow but opened the afternoon we went there.

We did meet a colleague of yours at Quest and I hope she let you know we sent good wishes and my husband suggested a raise!!!!!

Thanks again and will definitely recommend you to anyone wanting to tour South Island.
Hi Sophie

Apologies for not getting back sooner, I went straight back to work after our holiday.

In a nutshell, it was fabulous! It is so, so beautiful I couldn’t get enough of the stunning scenery. I absolutely fell in love with Queenstown and seriously think I’d like to retire there one day, it ticks all the boxes for me.

The whole trip went without a single glitch. All of our documents and itinerary were perfectly in order and very easily managed with the vouchers. All transfers, buses etc were exactly where they were supposed to be and at the times stated. I was so impressed by the simplicity of it, I wasn’t confused by any of the arrangements and felt very confident navigating it all.

Your advice was spot on too Sophie, especially re doing the helicopter in Franz Joseph first, then Fox, then Lake Matheson. The weather was perfect for us that day. The heli was my favourite tour of the holiday, closely followed by the Glowworm tour. I ended up skiing at Coronet Peak on our free day in Queenstown but Wanaka is somewhere I need to go back to, it was beautiful. The weather was also very kind to us on Milford Sound, no rain!

I can’t thank you enough Sophie, all went without hitch and we truly had a stress free, beautiful holiday.
Thank you for all of your advice, recommendations and planning.
Tess, my trip was great I never know a holiday was so busy. Great time in Franz, nice wee place. Found the best things too do in Queenstown, was great… Maybe little too much great.. Milford which is amazing.. Really peaceful.. I would off enjoyed a day in Te Anau, for as it has plenty too offer also with Dunedin. But I did get my short list of things done. Was the winter street Party – many people. I’ve enjoyed just the whole package.. Just sitting on the bus is really great way too see where you going.. Oh, the boat ride in Milford,, what a cool as boat food was excellent and the grew,, friendly and so young. But did their job /made it pleasant. It was a shame the train couldn’t run all the way to Greymouth, but this was out of your control. Thank you for your time.

Frequently Asked Questions – Independent Tours

What is an Independent Tour?
Independent Tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people traveling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are traveling independently.  However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.

What dates do your tours depart?
The Pacific Travel Independent Tour programme operates on a daily basis (with daily departures) using the services of Great Sights, InterCity, Interislander and KiwiRail. All tours are subject to availability at time of booking.

What is included in the tour cost?
All tours 2+ days in length include coach travel, transfers, accommodation and sightseeing activities where specified. A detailed travel wallet with your travel vouchers and comprehensive itinerary will be sent to you or delivered to your pre tour accommodation for you to collect on check in.

What is not included in the tour cost?
Expenses of a personal nature such as meals (except where stated in the itinerary), beverages, travel insurance, laundry and optional sightseeing (except where stated in the itinerary) are not included in the tour cost.

I am travelling alone – can I pay the triple or twin share rate and be linked with other travellers?
No, unfortunately. You must pay the single room – per person cost.

I am travelling with children, what price will I pay?
Please contact us for information on child fares, as these vary based on the specific product you require. Some sightseeing activities are unsuitable for children.

Are any meals included in the tour cost?
Our Superior accommodation option includes breakfast. No other meals are included in the tour cost except where stated in the itinerary. The coach makes various refreshment / comfort stops throughout the day where food can be purchased. Each evening you are free to relax and dine at you choice of restaurant either on site if you choose Superior accommodation, or just a short walk into town if staying in Standard accommodation.

Is Halal food available in New Zealand?
Along with a small population of Muslims, New Zealand has an increasing number of Muslim visitors. Halal food and restaurants are now found in many areas of the country.

Do Independent Tours have a tour escort?
As these tours are Independent, you do not have an escort traveling with you. However all coach drivers are experienced professionals. They will share their vast knowledge of our country with you by providing an informative commentary on most routes.

Can I add in additional nights to a tour?
Yes you can. All tours are very flexible. Please ask one of our Travel Consultants for extra nightly rates.

What is the difference between Standard & Superior accommodation?
Standard:  Motor Lodge, apartment style accommodation, self-contained accommodation, ensuite bathrooms.
Superior: 4 star hotel accommodation, includes breakfast.

Note all accommodation is reviewed regularly by staff, we have high standards and good relationships with all our providers. We endeavour where possible to book accommodation that is within easy walking distance of the centre of town.

What if I cannot find exactly what I am looking for on the website?
Let us know what is on your wish list to see and do and we are more than happy to help you plan a customised tour.

How much luggage can I take on my tour?
Each passenger may take 2 pieces of luggage (max 25kg each). For safety reasons, each passenger is limited to one carry on item (max 5kg). We also advise you check the maximum baggage allowance with your chosen airline.

How do I make a payment for a tour?
