Taupo Day Tour

Leaving Rotorua, we drive past the start of the Kaiangaroa Forest (the largest man planted forest in the Southern Hemisphere). Heading south, we stop on the way to view the hot water lake adjacent to Rainbow Mountain before arriving at Wai o Tapu (Sacred Water). Here our visit takes in a wonderland of colour and thermal activity. View the Champagne Pool and the famous Lady Knox Geyser which erupting daily. It is here you will also view the largest mud lake in the world!

From here we proceed towards Taupo for a stop at the superb Lava Glass Blowing Factory / Showrooms and the spectacular Lava Glass Sculpture Garden.

Next, view the Aratiatia Rapids when at mid-day the gates of this dam on the Waikato River are opened and provide a spectacular view of rapids filling the valley. After the rapids it is on to the famous and awesome Huka Falls, another of the wonders of the Waikato River.

We arrive at the Taupo Lookout where on a clear day the Mountains of Tongariro National Park are visible (snow clad in the winter). There is now time to relax and reflect on the wonders so far while you enjoy lunch (own cost) some free time for a walk, a spot of shopping or just sit by the lake and take in the beautiful views.

A short stop is made during the return journey to Rotorua at the NZ Honey Hive, where you get to see inside the bee hive, learn about the honey and join in the honey tasting. New Zealand wines are also available for tasting.

After your honey tasting experience it's onto the Waiarakei Geothermal Bore fields Lookout. Time can be allowed for Jet Boating.

We spent a day with Tim in the Lake Taupo area and visited Wai-o-tapu, the Lady Knox geyser, Lave Glass, the Ariatiatia Dam and Rapids, and went on a Huka Falls cruise. It was brilliant from start to finish.

Tim picked us up at our Rotorua Hotel at 8pm and arranged to stop off there on the way back. This meant that we could leave our luggage at the hotel and pick it up at he end of the day.

I was pleased to see that we were a party of just four which meant that there was more interaction and that made the day even better.

Tim’s timing was immaculate and we arrived at every venue at exactly the right time so there was no hanging around to contend with. His commentaries en route were informative, interesting and amusing. The perfect combination.

I would not hesitate in recommending Taylor’s Tours to you if you are in the Rotarua, Lake Taupo area.
Uncle Tim was very easy to work with. He called us at our hotel to confirm the tour once we arrived in Rotorua.

The next day Martin, his tour guide, gave us a great tour of Waiotapu, the Lady Knox Geyser, a relaxing coffee and scone visit to Lava Glass (we’re not big on tourist shopping), Honey Hive and Aratiatia Dam. Then…. on to Lake Taupo!

It was a beautiful day and Tim and Martin created a great memory for us.
