HIGHLIGHTS

Day 1 Auckland – Waitomo – Rotorua
Travel south through the rich farmland of the Waikato to the region of Waitomo. Enjoy a guided tour through the long galleries and lofty chambers of the World Famous Glow Worm Caves. Early afternoon continue east to Rotorua, a thermal wonderland of roaring geysers and boiling mud. Tonight enjoy an authentic Maori Hangi and Concert experience.

Day 2 Full Day in Rotorua
This morning enjoy a coach tour visiting Te Puia, Rainbow Springs and the Agrodome. You have the afternoon free for optional activities.

Day 3 Rotorua – Wellington
Depart Rotorua and travel south to Wellington past Lake Taupo and on through the Desert Road where on a clear day you get wonderful views of the towering peaks of Mt Ngaruahoe, Tongariro and Ruapehu.

Day 4 Wellington – Christchurch
Today you have the option of spending the morning in Wellington or taking an early flight to Christchurch to spend the day there. You will need to make your own flight arrangements to fly between Wellington and Christchurch – you can arrange your flight at anytime today. Airport transfers in Wellington and Christchurch are included.

Day 5 Christchurch – Mount Cook – Queenstown
Travel south following the foothills of the Southern Alps to Mount Cook Village via Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. Free time in Mount Cook before continuing on to Queenstown travelling via the Lindis Pass and the Kawarau Gorge.

Day 6 Milford Sound Day Excursion
A full day tour to the World Heritage listed, Fiordland National Park. Enjoy a one and a half hour cruise of Milford Sound (includes picnic lunch) viewing the spectacular waterfalls and Mitre Peak.

Day 7 Full Day in Queenstown
A free day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort. We have included the Skyline Gondola in your tour. There are dozens of activities from white water rafting, jetboating, sky diving, bungy jumping, lake cruises and excellent walking trails. Something for everyone.

Day 8 Queenstown – Franz Josef
Leaving Queenstown, travel to the West Coast passing through Cromwell and Hawea before climbing over the Hasst Pass into Westland national Park.  After arriving into Franz Josef you will be collected by shuttle and transferred to the glacier carpark where you take a short walk to a glacier lookout point.

Day 9 Franz Josef – Greymouth – Christchurch
Travel north through lush rainforest to Greymouth where you will transfer to the TranzAlpine Train. Enjoy a remarkable train journey across the Southern Alps and across the Canterbury Plains to the "Garden City" of Christchurch.

* Note: Between May & mid September the Coastal Pacific Train will not be operating (closed for winter season). Travel during this period travel will be by coach.


*Prices are per person and include: pick up from centrally located pre tour accommodation, transfers to / from accommodation throughout the tour and activities as specified in the itinerary. Expenses of a personal nature such as meals (except where stated in the itinerary), beverages, travel insurance, laundry and optional sightseeing are not included in the tour cost.

As this is an 'independent' styled tour, you can depart whatever day you like! (subject to availability)

What is an independent tour?
 Independent tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.

Cancellation policy

If after your booking has been confirmed you wish to cancel, the following cancellation fees will apply:

  • For cancellations up to 7 days prior to travel – loss of deposit.
  • For cancellations 7 days – 48 hours prior to travel – 50% of total fare will apply.
  • For cancellations within 48 hours prior to travel – 100% of total fare will apply.

All tours may be amended provided these arrangements are made more than 15 days prior to departure. Amendments will incur a fee of NZ$50.00 per file change. Amendments within 15 days of departure will also incur additional fees in accordance with the policies of our suppliers.

Conditions of travel:

Pacific Travel reserves the right to alter fares, amend itineraries, book alternative accommodation or to cancel tours. Pacific Travel shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage to luggage or personal effects and/or damage resulting in death or personal injury which might arise whilst on tour with Pacific Travel or its nominated suppliers.
