Day 1 Auckland – Waitomo – Rotorua
Depart Auckland at 7.30am.  Travel south through the rich farmland of the Waikato to the region of Waitomo. Enjoy a guided tour through the long galleries and lofty chambers of the World Famous Glow Worm Caves. Early afternoon continue east to Rotorua, a thermal wonderland of roaring geysers and boiling mud, arrive at 1.30pm. Tonight you will be entertained by Mitai who operate an authentic Maori Hangi and concert experience.

Day 2 Full Day in Rotorua

This morning you will tour with Great Sights visiting Te Puia, Rainbow Springs and the Agrodome. You have the afternoon free for optional activities.

Day 3 Rotorua - Wellington 

Depart Rotorua and travel via Lake Taupo and the desolate Desert Road south to Wellington. View the white peaked volcanoes of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngaruahoe. Arrive into Wellington at 4.45pm.

Day 4 Free Day in Wellington

Today you have a free day to explore New Zealand’s capital city and its endless sights. Please ask at time of booking if you would  like us to book additional activities.

Day 5 Wellington – Christchurch

Today you have the option of spending the morning in Wellington or taking an early flight to Christchurch to spend the day there. You will need to make your own flight arrangements to fly between Wellington and Christchurch – you can arrange your flight at anytime today. Airport transfers in Wellington and Christchurch are included.

Day 6 Christchurch – Mount Cook – Queenstown

Travel south following the foothills of the Southern Alps to Mount Cook Village via Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. Free time in Mt Cook before continuing on to Queenstown travelling via the Lindis Pass and the Kawarau Gorge.

Day 7 Full Day in Queenstown

A free day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort. We have included the Skyline Gondola in your tour. There are dozens of activities from white water rafting, jetboating, bungy jumping, lake cruises and excellent walking trails. Something for everyone. Please ask if you would like us to include any additional activities in your package.

Day 8 Queenstown - Dunedin

This morning travel through central Otago to 'Edinburgh of the South', the city of Dunedin.  This afternoon enjoy an Otago Peninsula Tour. As you cruise the length of the Otago Harbour, you will see beautiful bays, hills, farmland and forest. You’ll learn about the harbour’s volcanic geology and its Maori and European history. Watch as NZ Furseals play and swim near their breeding colonies, out at sea you can spot up to 20 species of rarely seen ocean birds including other albatross species and petrels, and you may see penguins, dolphins and other marine mammals. You will also enjoy a guided tour of Penguin Place.

Day 9 Dunedin - Te Anau

Morning at leisure in Dunedin. This afternoon board your coach for your journey through the lush pastures of Otago and Southland to the lakeside resort of Te Anau.

Day 10 Te Anau – Milford Sound - Queenstown

Regarded as one of the World's most scenic journeys into Fiordland National Park - a world heritage area. Enjoy a one and a half hour cruise of Milford Sound viewing spectacular waterfalls and famous Mitre Peak before reaching Queenstown in the evening.

Day 11 Queenstown at leisure

A second free day in this beautiful resort. Time for more activities, a spot of shopping or simply time to relax in one of the many cafes.

Day 12 Queenstown – Franz Josef

Leaving Queenstown, travel to the West Coast passing through Cromwell and Hawea before climbing over the Haast Pass into Westland National Park.

Day 13 Full Day in Franz Josef

Today we have included a short sightseeing tour. You will be taken by shuttle bus to the Franz Josef Glacier viewing point. Visitors can view the glacier after a short 10 minute walk (this walk is not guided). Also included in the tour is a voucher for entry into the Franz Josef Glacier Hot Pools, you can use this at your leisure.
Option: Upgrade to a 'Glacier Heli Hike' - a thrilling flight and an amazing three hour guided glacier hike. Please ask at time of booking.

Day 14 Franz Josef – Greymouth – Christchurch

Travel north through lush rainforests to Greymouth where you will transfer to the TranzAlpine Train. Enjoy a remarkable train journey across the Southern Alps and across the Canterbury Plains into the "Garden City" of Christchurch arriving in the evening. Your tour of New Zealand ends here.

* Note: Between May & mid September 2016 the Coastal Pacific Train will not be operating (closed for winter season). Travel during this period will be by coach.

What is an independent tour?
 Independent tours are not escorted group tours - they are for independent travellers. What this means is that it is not the same group of people travelling on their own coach with a tour leader/escort looking after you. You are travelling independently. However, you are picked up and dropped off at your accommodation each morning and evening and interesting commentary is provided on many sectors.

Cancellation policy

If after your booking has been confirmed you wish to cancel, the following cancellation fees will apply:

  • For cancellations up to 7 days prior to travel – loss of deposit.
  • For cancellations 7 days – 48 hours prior to travel – 50% of total fare will apply.
  • For cancellations within 48 hours prior to travel – 100% of total fare will apply.

All tours may be amended provided these arrangements are made more than 15 days prior to departure. Amendments will incur a fee of NZ$50.00 per file change. Amendments within 15 days of departure will also incur additional fees in accordance with the policies of our suppliers.

Conditions of travel:

Pacific Travel reserves the right to alter fares, amend itineraries, book alternative accommodation or to cancel tours. Pacific Travel shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage to luggage or personal effects and/or damage resulting in death or personal injury which might arise whilst on tour with Pacific Travel or its nominated suppliers.
