An eight day tour with InterCity Coachlines covering a circular route of the northern part of the South Island and the tourist attractions of Mt Cook, Queenstown and Milford Sound. Features include: TranzAlpine scenic railway, Punakaiki pancake rocks & blowholes, Nelson, Kaikoura Whalewatch, TranzCoastal scenic railway, Mt Cook and Fiordland National Parks, Cruise of Milford Sound and a Dunedin Heritage city tour.

Day 1 Christchurch - Greymouth - Punakaiki
Board the world renowned TranzAlpine train bound for Greymouth via the Arthur's Pass National Park. Cross the Canterbury Plains, travel over viaducts and through tunnels and into the lush rainforests of the West Coast. On arrival in Greymouth board your InterCity coach for your journey north to Punakaiki.

Day 2 Punakaiki - -Nelson
This morning there is time to visit the famous Punakaiki pancake rocks and blow-holes, just 400 metres from your accommodation. There are optional horse treks and local tours available. This afternoon board the InterCity coach for your journey north through Westport and the Buller Gorge to Nelson.

Day 3 Nelson - Kaikoura
Travel with InterCity Coachlines through the Nelson state forests to Blenheim before
heading south to the seaside resort of Kaikoura. Enjoy spectacular views of the Kaikoura coastline and the seaward Kaikoura mountain range. Arrive Kaikoura by 1.00pm.

Day 4 Kaikoura - Christchurch
This morning enjoy a 3 hour cruise with Kaikoura Whalewatch to marvel at the giant sperm whale and the dusky dolphins. Kaikoura Whalewatch has won many international awards for tourism excellence and marine conservation. In the afternoon return to Christchurch on the TranzCoastal train. Arrive Christchurch 6.20pm

Day 5 Christchurch - Mount Cook - Queenstown
Travel southwest with Great Sights to Mount Cook village via Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki. There are photographic opportunities at the beautiful Church of the Good Shepherd. Lunch (extra cost) is at Mount Cook - time is available to stroll along one of the many alpine walks in the area. Depart for Queenstown travelling via the Lindis Pass and the Kawarau Gorge. Arrive Queenstown by 6.30pm.

Day 6 Queenstown - Milford - Te Anau
Travel with Great Sights to the Fiordland National Park – a world heritage park. A vast remote wilderness of snow-capped mountains, glacial lakes and valleys, fiords, waterfalls and dense rainforests. From Te Anau, travel to the forested Eglinton Valley, Mirror Lakes, Homer Tunnel and Chasm before arriving at Milford Sound. Enjoy a one and a half hour cruise of Milford Sound viewing the spectacular waterfalls and famous Mitre Peak.

This evening we recommend an optional tour across the lake to view the Glow Worm Caves.

Day 7 Te Anau - Dunedin
High country tussock soon gives way to the lush pastures of Southland and Otago as you travel with InterCity Coachlines through Gore and Balclutha arriving in Dunedin by
12.30pm. This afternoon depart on a Dunedin heritage tour by double-decker bus. See the well known landmarks established by the early Scottish settlers.

Day 8 Dunedin - Christchurch
Travel with InterCity Coachlines north through the cities of Oamaru and Timaru arriving in Christchurch by 1.45pm
