Day 1 Christchurch - Greymouth - Glaciers
Depart Christchurch on the Tranz Alpine Train. A time to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Canterbury and West Coast provinces. Through the panoramic windows you’ll view the huge and fertile farmlands of the Canterbury Plains as the train makes its way westwards to the mountains. The Tranz Alpine train winds its way over massive viaducts, through spectacular gorges and river valleys, before tracking slowly across the country’s mountain range, the Southern Alps. There are spectacular views of the Waimakariri Gorge, carved by the river as it cut its way through the landscape. Arrive into Greymouth at 12.45pm where you transfer onto an Intercity Coach. The journey to the Glaciers is southward through the lush bush covered landscape at the base of the Southern Alps. Arrive into Franz Josef at 5.05pm.

Today we have included a guided walk which accesses the rugged terminal ice face of the glacier. Round trip takes about four hours with about 1 hour spent exploring the lower glacier. Enjoy a fascinating commentary on the history and geology of the area. The rest of the day is free for optional activities which may include scenic flights up to the glaciers, short walks into the native rainforest or a visit to the Westland National Park Visitor Centre.

Day 3 Glaciers - Queenstown
This morning your journey continues south crossing over many large rivers and through Fox Glacier and other small West Coast townships such as Jacobs River & Bruce Bay. The coach passes over the spectacular Gates of Haast Bridge and across the Haast Pass itself. The Haast Pass is the southernmost crossing of the Southern Alps. You then journey on passing through Hawea, Wanaka & Cromwell. Arrive into picturesque Queenstown at 4.15pm. Queenstown is a popular year round resort, famous for its numerous outdoor adventure activities.
